The Cloud AI & Advanced Systems Engineering (CAASE) is responsible for expanding Microsoft’s Cloud Infrastructure to enable Microsoft’s mission to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more.

We are looking for a Principal Hardware Engineering Manager to join the team.

  • Build and support a team of hardware development and validation engineers. 
  • Collaborate with architecture, silicon engineering, firmware, hardware systems, hardware validation, OS (operating systems), manufacturing, and customer teams to build state-of-the-art compute, storage, networking, and accelerator hardware solutions. 
  • Drive Perform NUDD (new, unique, different, and difficult) technology and feature analysis and provide risk assessment and mitigations. 
  • Work closely with ODM during hardware manufacturing and post manufacturing validation.
  • Work with supply chain team, suppliers and ODM on server HW sustaining. Responsible for electrical validation of multi-sourced and end-of-life building blocks and components.
  • Building and managing a team responsible for defining test coverage, developing test cases, and test tools for board and building block level validation
  • Enable board and platform level discussions, influencing architecture of the product, and delivering to product goals across quality, reliability, and performance. 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • BS / MS in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent industry experience. 
  • Leadership experience includes recruiting, building, and managing teams.
  • 10+ years of relevant hands-on experience in hardware development (compute, storage, networking, and/or accelerator) level design and/or implementation across the hardware development lifecycle. 
  • Experience with hardware, board level electrical design and validation, SoC power delivery, high-speed and low-speed serial IO electrical testing, CPLD board management functions like power up/down and reset flows, and test automation.
  • Ability to work across multiple disciplines (Architecture, hardware, platform, firmware, software, reliability, and/or data center infrastructure) to identify risks, drive discussions, detail system tradeoffs, and assess impact.
  • Experience evaluating and developing PCB board and platform level validation coverage, strategy, plans and test cases. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of high-volume silicon (SoCs, GPUs, or FPGAs), compute, storage, and/or networking design, manufacturing, and deployment. 
  • Experience with highspeed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, and ethernet. 
  • Knowledge about datacenters & operations at scale. 
  • Experience managing board level hardware programs through the entire product lifecycle. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
