Summary of the position:

The CMC project manager Oncology Cell Therapy Tech Ops (CTTO) plans and coordinates delivery of CMC activities in line with project requirements, plan and supervise resources and expenses for product development and clinical manufacture. The Tech Ops group works with Oncology R&D and BioPharma R&D Research, Operations, Regulatory, and all development functions.

The Director, Oncology cell therapy CMC project management works collaboratively with CMC, manufacturing team leaders and key partners to ensure project goals and breakthroughs are achieved. The role provides project management and leadership expertise to CMC teams to ensure efficient planning and delivery of CTTO portfolio. This role demonstrates and applies management experience where appropriate to work with internal and external partners. This role has a high job complexity, and the successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal direction, to meet requirements outlined below.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads translation of drug development and clinical development strategies into CMC project plans and results (timeline, budget, resource plan, risk assessment, and turning points)
  • Create, lead and facilitate project team meetings, drive project team strategy, develop meeting agendas, track and lead actions through to completion/resolution and run workshops
  • Leverage project management tools to drive planning, meeting subject area and project document management
  • Facilitate readiness for governance and senior leader interactions
  • Supervises risks in real time to ensure team engagement and mitigation plans are activated as required. Anticipates and resolves challenges affecting goals and objectives
  • Partners with the CMC and manufacturing team leaders, supply teams and external parties to drive achievement of goals and meet challenges as required
  • Leads and coordinates project updates; responsible for effective communications and partner management with the cross-functional project team, senior leadership, and other key partners
  • Leads and implements pivotal initiatives related to CMC project management
  • Acts as a source of knowledge in defining, communicating and implementing cell therapy project management systems
  • Introduces new/improved ways of running and planning projects
  • Partners with finance to lead program budgets and guide resourcing decisions

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, PhD or equivalent industry experience in a relevant technical field such as Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology or Chemical Engineering.
  • BS with 15+ years, MS with 10+ years, and PhD with 5+ years

Required Skills:

  • Shown experience in auto or allo cell therapy CMC project management
  • Successful candidate must have experience in planning, managing, and driving functional and/or cross functional aspects of cell therapy product development
  • The candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and application of Project Management tools
  • This position requires a high level of commitment, flexibility and independence with strong skills for planning, coordination, facilitation, driving collaboration, leading project teams, partner communications and cross-functional team management
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop relationships with key partners, good conflict leadership skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals inside and outside of function
  • Effective problem solving and analytical skills to take on and lead a broad range of issues and projects across a large organization and deliver innovative solutions
  • Professional, dedicated, proactive, and detail-orientated with ability to work with minimal direction
  • Shown ability to proactively identify risks and resolve issues
  • Shown success in goal setting & delivery, resource planning, run budget considerations, prioritization, and time management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity
  • Highly organized and able to work independently on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience within field
  • Professional Project Management certification
  • Business Strategy
  • Combined experience of Project Management in a CMC or Process Development function
