Job Overview:

As a Sr. Product Manager for our Design System, you will serve as a guiding systems thinker, balancing the big picture with tactical objectives, and ensuring that design elements meet industry standards and are adopted at scale throughout various enterprise platforms. Your role will encompass being a strategist, analyst, customer evangelist, respected leader in design and technology execution, and a professional relationship builder.

T-mobile's digital design system is a product that serves all other products and platforms for experience delivery. The Product Manager is accountable for design SDK platform, services, and experiences, and finding opportunities at the intersection of customer problems, technical feasibility, and business goals. You will secure funding and lead a cross-functional team to deliver against these opportunities, driving the long-term strategy to deliver and maintain a centralized SDK. Your day-to-day activities will include conducting market research, writing features, resolving specifications, crafting the product roadmap, driving technical delivery, defining scope for releases, and partnering with critical team members to define the release schedule and support go-to-market activities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Owns product end to end cross-platform design for to build a unified SDK of all visual systems for the enterprise. 
  • Works across the organization to drive adoption across 5 additional platforms integrating with the design system, and continued expansion of the SDK to support new north star initiatives, commerce and service journeys.
  • Anticipates industry trends, direction, innovation, analyses potential impacts or opportunities to customer / product, and incorporates analyses into product process.
  • Communicates, influences, and sells ideas at Executive level and below. This includes regularly delivering product presentations.
  • Maintains current understanding of tech trends. Assesses how trends impact the roadmap or build opportunity for innovation of the product.

Customer Evangelist

  • Brings to bear customer insights for product vision, strategy, roadmap, priorities.
  • Translates product/platform strategy by writing detailed features and user stories consumable for Dev teams for highly sophisticated products with multiple transactions and touchpoints. This work may include creation of prototypes.

Product Execution & Technical Delivery

  • Owns and handles product backlog and priorities with our business and technology partners. Backlog at this level typically serves 5 - 8 Agile / Scrum / Sprint teams, often with dependencies on other internal and external teams.
  • Scopes and ensures alignment on the prioritization of activities based on business and customer impact.
  • Collaborates with Architecture and Dev teams to ensure technical debt and long term technical investment is factored into roadmap.
  • Ensures existing production defects are factored into regular backlog prioritization for resolution based on priority.
  • Collaborates with partners Design and Dev / Execution teams to build and communicate anticipated release schedule.

Relationship & People, Professional Development

  • Collaborates and develops positive working relationships with many teams, including design, user experience, marketing, legal, accessibility, Dev, Architecture, Engineering.
  • Develops adoption tools and training material for Design and Engineering teams. 

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree - Design, Visual Communications, System Engineering, IT or equivalent experience.

Work Experience:

  • 7+ years of Product Management in an agile software product development environment.
  • 7+ years of relevant product design and 3+ years of proven expertise delivering a design system product to market. Sophisticated level understanding of customer experience, design craft skill and experience including UX, UI, design systems, prototyping and prior work demonstrating strong design process and system thinking.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Product Lifecycle Management: Experience in delivering large and complex business/technology initiatives. (Required)
  • Communication Proven track record to optimally and efficiently connect with Leadership, while employing a high degree of teamwork and influence. (Required)
  • Technology: Deep understanding of platform technologies (including IOS, Android, web, HTML, Figma , and accessibility standard methodologies and components such as security, performance, optimization, API integration. Proven knowledge of full technology stack on which your assigned product runs.
  • At least 18 years of age
