Social Media Lead, News - Thomson Reuters Foundation

We are searching for a dynamic and creative Social Media Lead, News, to create content and line manage a small social media team for Context Newsroom, a media platform by Thomson Reuters Foundation that provides news and analysis contextualising how critical issues and events impact ordinary people, society, and the environment.

Your responsibilities will range from promoting our compelling stories to curating social native content and utilising analytics for trend identification and content analysis. In this pivotal role, you will play a crucial part in steering our social media growth while spearheading the development and growth of your direct report.

Reporting directly to the Head of Social, you will closely collaborate with the Audience, Editorial, and Video teams. About the Role:

As the Social Media Lead, News, at Thomson Reuters Foundation, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Publishing and scheduling content: Create, manage and own output for the Context Newsroom social media accounts, ensuring the timely and strategic publication of content.
  • Managing team content output: Oversee your team in the creation and delivery of native content across various social media channels, including videos, images, and graphics.
  • Social media campaigns: Develop and execute organic social media campaigns aligned with our long-term initiatives and projects.
  • Performance analysis: Utilise analytics tools such as CrowdTangle and Meltwater to continually assess and enhance the performance of our social media channels.
  • Team management: Lead and develop your team to meet and surpass key performance indicators (KPIs).

About You:

To be our Social Media Lead, News, you will likely have:

  • At least 3 years of experience: Demonstrated expertise in a social media role, preferably within a news organization.
  • Deep understanding of social media: Proficiency across various channels, with particular emphasis on LinkedIn, Twitter/X, and Instagram. This includes understanding the different audiences across these platforms, and how best to engage with them.
  • Copywriting skills: Strong ability to craft compelling and engaging social content.
  • Team management: Proven experience in managing and developing a team.
  • Impeccable news judgment: A keen sense of what makes a story stand out in the rapidly evolving world of news and media, and how to make it stand out in busy social media feeds alongside other news brands.
  • Analytics proficiency: Familiarity with and understanding of analytics tools such as CrowdTangle, Meltwater, or equivalent platforms, and how to effectively interpret the information they provide.
  • Video content production: Experience in producing social native video content across multiple social channels, including familiarity with video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere.
  • Design experience: Proficient in creating visually engaging and accessible images, slideshows, and GIFs using graphic design platforms such as Canva.
