Your Role and Responsibilities

  • Design, model, and construct integrated optical, electrical, and mechanical sub-systems to perform laser annealing for frequency control in superconducting quantum processors.
  • Develop and validate high-throughput low-noise electrical characterization methodologies for Josephson junctions.
  • Utilize Python (or an equivalent), machine learning, AI and optimization techniques to generate optimal frequency plans for multi-qubit quantum processors. Define, assess and quantify architecture-aware yield metrics.
  • Source code development for instrument control. Full-stack automation, integrated experimental workflows and analytics on large data sets.
  • Disseminate the results of research activities through publications in top academic journals and conferences, impactful patent applications, internal and external seminar participation, technical documentation, etc. Represents IBM in professional and academic meetings and societies.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Required: PhD or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, or Related with experience in optics and photonics systems research. Familiarity and knowledge of programming languages, (e.g., Python or an equivalent), is required.
  • Recommended: Knowledge of methods and algorithms in optimization and machine learning is recommended. General familiarity with quantum technologies, materials science, fabrication/process knowledge is a plus.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience in optics and photonics systems research.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of programming languages, (e.g., Python or an equivalent).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
