Job Description Details

The Principal UX Designer for the Zulily is responsible for the customer experience, usability, interaction and UI design for Zulily’s Shopping Experience. This person will work closely with Technology, Marketing and Business partners, UX Designers, User Research, and Zulily leadership across the business to create and evangelize strategies for new experiences that support the Zulily brand and deliver on our company mission to encourage discovery, defy convention and obsess about the customer. The candidate has expertise in a wide range of UX methodologies that result in impactful, scalable solutions, and will demonstrate cross-platform thinking for a variety of devices, contexts and modalities. They are able to balance high-level innovation with the ability to deliver tangible results. The Principal UX Designer is a thought leader who inspires and mentors others across disciplines. UX at Zulily is an end-to-end discipline inclusive of setting strategy, participating in user research, conceptual design, determining user flows and information architecture, interface and interaction design across all platforms, UX writing, visual design, contributing to decisions around scope and phasing of launches, and technical handoff.

What you'll do:

  • Drive conception, alignment, and evangelism of thematic, large-scale user experiences across multiple product spaces and teams.
  • Gather requirements and design, document and deliver timely UX research findings and designs for a variety of e-commerce and workflow scenarios while maintaining the Zulily brand and UX design standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and other designers to continuously improve and innovate on the Zulily user experience.
  • Maintain proactive and transparent communication with partner teams.
  • Anticipate obstacles and friction, and effectively articulate and manage risks, trade-offs, and recommend prioritization based on a balance of customer impact, business needs, and technical constraints.
  • Pull from breadth of expertise in UX methodologies across all phases of product development process: discovery, research, design, build, iteration and analysis. Document and report on findings.
  • Influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization including executive leadership to gain buy in for strategic concepts and designs that enable the user to achieve their objectives in the best way possible. 
  • Lead strategy for UX improvements, planning, and processes across Zulily.
  • Lead weekly and monthly planning and prioritization, determining and maintaining an individual roadmap in alignment with product team roadmaps.
  • Lead and deliver initiatives that improve product, team, organization, and cross-organization performance.
  • Identify new ways to solve problems and create unique, innovative solutions to drive product enhancement and improve customer experience.
  • Mentor UX Designers and peers in other disciplines as part of a leadership and coaching role.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years’ experience in UX/product design and a solid understanding of the relationship between content, visual design, user interface and technology is required.
  • Outstanding design portfolio including strategic initiatives with demonstrated impact.
  • Exhibit stylistic breadth, consistency, attention to detail balanced with beauty, innovation and usability.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills demonstrating influence and impact at the company-level.
  • Demonstrated experience driving alignment across teams and organizations, and advocating for the end-user.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and evangelizing innovative yet simple solutions to user problems.
  • Highly collaborative team player. Ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
  • Exceptional understanding and appreciation of Web technologies, trends and user interface solutions.
  • High level of proficiency in Sketch, prototyping tools, UserTesting or equivalent programs
