OVERVIEW:

The Cigna Pharmacy Client Strategy and Business Development Senior Director will act as a key member on the Cigna Pharmacy Management leadership team, reporting directly to the General Manager of Cigna Pharmacy. This leader will play a critical role in developing, influencing, and driving a comprehensive Cigna Pharmacy growth strategy aligned with that of U.S. Commercial buying groups. The foundational strategy work is critical to prioritizing pillars of growth and focus for the Cigna Pharmacy team while engaging critical stakeholders and market intelligence teams.

Additionally, this highly visible leadership role will have accountability for driving growth with Consultants and Brokers, including leaders within the health and welfare practices of consulting and brokerage firms, as well as the Pharmacy Practice leaders at major consulting as well as boutique firms that advise our different client segments within U.S. Commercial.

This position will also have accountability for New Pharmacy Sales within our National Accounts segment, with this leader responsible for partnering with the National New Sales and Underwriting teams to drive new growth for our largest (O3000) prospects.

Lastly, this role will be responsible for client acquisition strategy across buying groups and geographic markets. This role will lead a team evaluating win-loss analysis, competitor tactics, and corresponding competitive solutions by market, including growth strategies specific to consultant houses or firms or individual Brokers. 

The ability to develop strong relationships - both internally and externally across the aforementioned, diverse group of stakeholders will be a critical component to the success of the individual chosen to lead this function. This role will act as the market-facing voice of Cigna Pharmacy Client Acquisition and Broker Strategy, making cross-functional partnerships critical to ensure meaningful execution of growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads Cigna Pharmacy’s Broker relations, National New Pharmacy sales, and the Pharmacy Growth strategy teams. 
  • Partners with General Manager of Cigna Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Sales and Account Management Execution Managing Director, as well as Medical sales leadership to drive holistic strategy development, roll out, and subsequent measurement and analysis pertaining to different new client acquisition and retention efforts across buying groups, funding types, and markets.
  • Leads the build-out of, and deepening of relationships, within the Pharmacy Consultant Relations space to drive key business outcomes as well as incremental net new business growth.
  • Partners closely with Cigna Pharmacy and U.S. Commercial leadership team and cross functional leaders to ensure alignment on strategy and execution of shared goals and priorities.
  • Champions communication and collaboration with the U.S. Commercial and Evernorth Consultant Relations teams.
  • Directs a team of Pharmacy strategy specialists to determine areas of prioritized, focused initiatives to drive net new client growth as well as existing business persistency and product penetration goals. 
  • Leverages National new sales team to execute on growth across both medical and pharmacy lives, as well as pharmacy carve-in strategies for the O3000 Buying Group. 
  • Collaborates with cross-functional internal teams to ensure client and producer needs are appropriately represented and supported. 
  • Responsible for creation of a Broker engagement plan, expanding the consultant sphere of influence while accelerating the client buying journey.
  • Collaborates with pharmacy and medical underwriting, prospecting/RFP, legal, finalist teams, marketing and account management to create proactive deal strategy and approach for consultant template deals and opportunities.
  • Creates processes to streamline operations, where applicable.
  • Provides oversight of special projects that may fall outside of standard day-to-day objectives and/or have no natural “home” in the organization.
  • Maintains holistic view of new and existing business performance, including market, buying group, and producer productivity, in accordance to established metric and KPIs.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or PharmD highly preferred.
  • Seasoned, respected leader with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the healthcare/pharmacy benefit management industry.
  • Deep experience and documented success driving mutually beneficial business development efforts with clients and producers.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record for developing business strategies and creating innovative, yet profitable and scalable solutions to difficult problems.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills with an ability to interact at all levels of leadership, with technical experts, and with external clients and partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive, influence and problem-solve to conclusion across Cigna and Evernorth businesses and teams.
  • Detailed understanding of pharmacy supply chain economics gained by work experience at a healthcare/pharmacy benefit management or consulting organization.
  • Strong analytical / problem solving, organizational and process improvement skills.
  • Business process mapping skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills, with an ability to build trusted, productive partnerships between business leaders and internal/external partners is a must.
  • Agility in dealing with a constantly changing business environment and areas of ambiguity.
  • Strong leadership competencies and a documented track record of success leading diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong work ethic and a high drive and focus. Demonstrates optimism and determination when facing challenges.
