Position Responsibilities

Thundermist provides culturally competent care to patients from birth through late adulthood, utilizing a multidisciplinary team approach. As a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Student, you will work under the supervision of a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician, as a member of a team delivering care in areas such as family medicine, primary care, pediatrics, obstetrical and gynecological care, medication assisted treatment, trans, and behavioral health. 

You will be provided with learning opportunities involving providing primary medical care to assigned patients while under clinically precepted supervision. Patient care learning includes collecting history information, providing a physical exam, managing acute and chronic illnesses, and maintenance of complete/accurate patient records.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in an MS, MSN, or DNP program. 
  • RI RN Licensure.
  • Current and Active BLS.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with patients, providers, other members of the healthcare team, other disciplines, and community agencies.
  • Have sensitivity to the patient population we serve, by identifying cultural, social, and economic characteristics. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and communicate in a professional manner with patients, families, other staff, and outside contacts.
  • Exceptional oral and written skills needed. 
  • Proficient in all applicable medical terminology. 
  • Good interpersonal skills are needed. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bilingual in a second language. 
  • Candidates who do not meet all the preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply. 

Physical Effort/ Environment

  • The duties of this position are performed at a Thundermist location. 
  • Moderate physical activity: walking, standing, and stooping. 
  • Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, respiratory disease, and other infectious diseases, and other biohazards material requiring universal standard precautions for medical practitioners. 
  • Manual dexterity needed for certain medical procedures. 
  • Clinical environment in ambulatory-based settings and home-based care.
