Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to join our global Capital Engineering department at our Mumbai, India location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company. This position will report to the Director of Capital Engineering.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Effectively manage the design, construction, and start-up of capital projects in India (typically $1 - 30MM USD). Projects include the construction of new facilities as well as the upgrade and expansion of existing facilities.
  • Prepare project scopes, cost estimates, authorization requests and schedules along with basic engineering and detailed design construction packages
  • Coordinate and lead both internal / external members of project team along with contract engineering / construction management firms
  • Achieve required project completion schedule within authorized funding amount and meet all project performance goals (safety, quality, capacity, etc.)
  • Anticipate and identify areas of project risk and mitigate through proactive risk assessments and implementation of countermeasure / mitigation strategies
  • Accurately control, forecast and report project monthly capex and fiscal year spend
  • Responsible for EHS and compliance during project execution
  • Ensure all local government and Ashland requirements are met on project application, execution, and acceptance
  • Complete proper project close-out by establishing punch lists and acceptance protocols, preparation and checking of as-built drawings, cost and project reconciliation and take part in the lessons learned session
  • Effectively communicate project status to stakeholders and senior leadership via steering team meetings and other communication updates

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 7 - 10 years’ experience in managing capital projects in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food or heavy manufacturing industries
  • Proven ability to successfully design, construct and commission capital equipment and systems as part of projects in operating facilities
  • Project scheduling (MS Project, Primavera, etc.), cost control and cost forecasting skills
  • Demonstrated SAP or equivalent experience
  • Working understanding of P&IDs along with a basic understanding of industry and governmental standards for design and construction
  • Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills, including a demonstrated ability to lead multi-discipline teams and motivate others

The following skill sets are preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Additional formal Project Management certification (e.g., PMI or CII)
  • Corporate-level large project management experience
  • Capital project estimating skills
  • Knowledge of international codes and standards 
  • Hands-on field experience in chemical manufacturing facilities with process and equipment commissioning, safety reviews, performance testing, and troubleshooting
