In this paid internship, you’ll be empowered to work on challenging and complex issues in a collaborative environment with other talented interns. Over the 10-week program, you’ll participate in business projects, mentoring, leadership development training and team-building activities designed to set you up for professional success. The summer Internship program runs June through August, with flexible dates available, based on school schedules. Interns who perform well and demonstrate a commitment to our values of integrity, creativity, teamwork, passion, and excellence may be extended employment opportunities with Western Alliance Bank.

The legal intern will have an opportunity to work alongside in-house attorneys and paralegals on legal matters gaining firsthand in-house legal department experience. Roles and responsibilities of a legal intern include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with in-house attorneys, paralegals, and outside counsel on compliance issues, regulations and industry standards with a focus on banking, finance, corporate, employment, and other related matters.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc projects by researching legal issues and regulatory developments, and preparing summaries of research.
  • Researching and interpreting laws, regulations, decisions, documents, opinions, briefs, or other information related to cases.
  • Analyzing legal issues and applying appropriate legal principles to determine applicable defenses, relevant arguments, and legal strategy.
  • Drafting and revising a variety of legal documents such as memos, legal correspondence, and organizational documents.
  • Preparing legal memoranda or statements of issues involved in legal matters, including appropriate suggestions or recommendations.

As an intern, you will be assigned a mentor and real projects that will benefit the bank and provide real-world experience in your specific area of study. Our Interns will work alongside world-class professionals in a fast-paced, professional setting which provides invaluable experiences to apply the knowledge and skills learned through your education.

What we are looking for:

You may be a fit for the program if you meet certain eligibility requirements, including:

  • Candidate must be currently attending an accredited law school.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
  • Be highly motivated and a self-starter with high standards of performance and expectations for themselves and their team.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented & possess outstanding follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong legal research and analytical thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong technical skills/Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Adobe experience preferred.
