Position Summary

The College of Osteopathic Medicine Office of Admissions & Student Affairs seeks candidates to fill the Assistant Director of Pathway Programs position. In partnership with the Director, the Assistant Director will help lead the development and implementation of pre-med and pathway programming as part of the commitment to expanding access to osteopathic education, growing the diversity of the DO and PA professions, and expanding healthcare access to Michigan's diverse communities. The Assistant Director will have strong interpersonal and cross-cultural

communication skills, curriculum development experience, expertise with pre-med and pathway programming in medical education and the ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external partners to coordinate their participation.

The Assistant Director will support the development of short- and long-term goals and activities to establish the College of Osteopathic Medicine as a leader in the State of Michigan and the nation in providing access, information, and hands-on experience to groups historically underrepresented in the osteopathic profession.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Curricular Development and Instruction-

Design and implement synchronous, asynchronous, in-person and hands-on course programming for pathway participants.

Work collaboratively with faculty and staff from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and other units to provide educational and career exploration content. Occasionally serve as an instructor for content provided to pathway participants and participating medical students volunteering to staff pathway initiatives. Provide ongoing educational workshops to college faculty, staff, and students regarding historical/systemic drivers of need for multigenerational pathway programming, best practices, and research. Provide programming in diverse communities across the state.

Advising-

Provide holistic advising to prospective and current program participants, instructors in middle school and high school, college counselors and other influencers. Develop and train student counselors for prospective and current program participants. Develop resource materials for prospective and current program participants.

Partnership Development & Collaboration-

Identify and collaborate with existing pre-med and pathway initiatives underway at MSUCOM and across the MSU campus.

Help develop collaborative partnerships with key on-campus programs serving students from groups historically underrepresented in osteopathic education and the profession. Help to identify other key partners and stakeholders in diverse communities across the state. In partnership with the Director, develop and implement a comprehensive plan for ongoing partner engagement, participation, and collaboration with all external partners.

Strategic Communication & Outreach-

Work with the Director to craft a comprehensive communication and outreach plan for K-12, community college, and 4-year institution students, alumni, and all partners regarding pre-med and pathway opportunities at MSUCOM.

Identify a strategy to utilize hard copy and electronic communications, as well as social media to publicize the programming and to reach prospective participants. Schedule annual in-person contacts with key institutions and partners.

Evaluation & Data Analysis-

Incorporate college and pathway trend data, as well as data from AACOM and the U.S. Census into communications, outreach, partner identification, curricular and evaluation planning. Incorporate research findings on pathway program efficacy to develop an evaluation plan for all activities. Keep a database of all individual and institutional pathway program participants. Prepare an annual summary of all pathway programming, including data analysis and lead an annual retreat regarding innovation and changes for the next cycle. Evaluate pathway program participation of students, staff, and faculty.

Required Degree

Masters

Minimum Requirements

Masters degree. Knowledge of education pathway to medical school, national trends, and best practices in outreach to diverse communities. Strong administrative, communication, group presentation and advising skills. Eagerness to learn and enthusiasm in working with youth and college-age populations.

Desired Qualifications

Strong interpersonal communication and group presentation skills, including facility with current visual meeting presentation software. Experience with marketing communications, including online marketing and social media. Experience working with and analyzing data. Good judgment, discretion, and problem- solving skills. Prior grant seeking and writing experience. Demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse constituencies. Cross-cultural and intercultural communication fluency. Excellent command of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Access, Excel, and Internet browsers.
