Basic Function

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company, is seeking a full-time Project Engineer. Reporting to the Manager - Project Engineering, the Project Engineer supports the plant operation and is responsible for managing the development and execution of capital related projects using a gated project process.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the development and execution of assigned capital projects at the Petro-Canada Lubricants Center within approved budget and targeted schedule
  • Uses and champions PCLI’s Project Management Process
  • Works with plant stakeholders to identify required project scopes and weighs them against proposed business cases
  • Provides project updates at gated intervals to Plant leadership – ultimately recommending full Project sanction / execution or cancellation if business case is not justified
  • Leads teams of engineers, technical designers, and procurement specialists through all phases of the project process
  • Works directly with construction resources to support physical construction activities
  • Engages plant’s operations and maintenance teams to ensure that all required operability, maintainability, and training aspects are properly addressed
  • Establishes and maintains a uniformly high quality of design efforts and production
  • Ensures that appropriate industry and internal standards are identified and adhered to for the safe operation of new installations and the wider plant
  • Ensures safety in design for all projects including meeting all Process Safety Management and MOC requirements
  • Plans, delegates, communicates, and controls work assignments for their project teams
  • Leads RFQ, bid tabulation, and contract development for their assigned projects
  • Special assignments or tasks may be assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion

Experience

  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Experience in an operating plant is an asset
  • Experience working in Oil and Gas or Petrochemical is preferred

Education Level

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, is required
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario or eligible
  • PMI designation is an asset

Required Skills

  • Advanced ability to lead and direct the work of others
  • Extensive, relevant project management experience using a stage-gated process
  • Knowledgeable in their field to review and approve the work of others
  • Strong familiarity and demonstrated ability in Management of Change processes
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication
  • Strong interpersonal, time-management and organizational skills; ability to develop quality controls and read and assess statistical and operational reports
  • Advanced spreadsheet, word processing applications knowledge
  • Experience / knowledge of SAP is an asset
  • Strong Non-Authoritative Leadership skills are required

Work Conditions

  • Office and plant based. Occasional / infrequent travel by land and air may be required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment. Subject to all temperatures including outdoor weather conditions. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.
  • Valid driver's license is required

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceive color differences, required to wear personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards are not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid State driver’s license and proof of insurance required. Depending on location must satisfactorily complete a comprehensive medical physical examination. Job conditions may require twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching or grasping, and working in confined spaces as permitted.
