We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Engineer with a product mindset to join our Backend Core team at Pleo as the team lead. This role is perfect for a seasoned engineer with a technical leadership role, and a product-oriented mindset, who enjoys leading teams, owning the roadmap, and being a proactive team player.

In this role, you will be a force multiplier, enabling other engineers to do even better. You will not only work within a team but also look across Pleo to identify, build, and deliver systemic improvements to help everyone be better. You will be the glue between engineering teams, helping facilitate the technical vision for an area and then helping people move towards that vision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire the Backend Core Team.
  • Understand and articulate the 'why' behind each product or feature the team is building.
  • Bring innovative suggestions and tradeoffs based on a deep understanding of our product and its users.
  • Work on building an API First approach to allow the Pleo platform to seamlessly integrate into the wider ecosystem of company tools and finance systems.
  • Build features incrementally, prioritizing early feedback and iterative development.
  • Take architectural ownership of various critical components and systems.
  • Provide technical coaching and mentorship across engineering teams cultivating an environment of innovation and collaboration.

You know your way around:

  • Cloud environments / distributed systems/microservices (AWS, Google Cloud, Kubernetes),
  • Architecting and building maintainable and scalable solutions
  • Authentication & Authorization for APIs
  • The role and responsibility of an API Gateway
  • Server-side languages (we mostly use Kotlin and TypeScript but we know you can learn new languages)
  • Testing frameworks and principles
  • Observability and monitoring
