JOB SUMMARY

  • This is a hybrid-only role based out of our Bethesda, MD HQ or our New York City office. 

Consumer Public Relations is an integral function within Marriott’s U.S. and Canada Consumer Operations organization. Under the leadership of the VP, Communications and Consumer PR for the U.S. and Canada, the Director, Luxury Public Relations, U.S. and Canada is an individual contributor role, responsible for leading, developing, and executing a PR strategy to generate exposure and drive consumer demand for the Marriott International portfolio of Luxury brands and hotels in the U.S. and Canada. The role is focused on the successful PR positioning of Luxury brands and hotels in the continent to drive brand affinity and awareness, as well as executing consumer-focused public relations plans utilizing proven PR practices as well as out-of-the-box thinking that drives awareness of, and action by, the company’s target consumers.

Additionally, this role will be responsible for working closely with cross-discipline partners (e.g., Marketing, Operations, etc.) and hotel PR and marketing leaders to develop a PR support model, tools, and resources for Luxury hotels in the U.S. and Canada portfolio to enable effective execution of individual hotel and market-level luxury PR strategies.

This position will report to the VP, Communications and Consumer PR for the U.S. and Canada. It will also work closely with the U.S. and Canada Consumer PR team, Global Brand PR, and Luxury Operations functions within the U.S. and Canada organization. The Director, Luxury Brand PR works at Marriott’s headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland or MI Lab in New York City.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • College (University) degree in Liberal Arts, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related field; post-graduate work in a demonstrably connected field is a plus 
  • 10+ years relevant professional experience in public relations, consumer marketing, social media, and/or strategic communications; experience in a corporate/brand/hotel environment preferred
  • Previous or current luxury brand or agency experience
  • Experience managing project teams and working in a highly matrixed, cross-discipline environment
  • Strong media relations skills and media contacts specifically in the Luxury space; understanding of, and experience working with, a variety of media
  • Experience developing and leading strategic department vision and goals, and assessing and building business cases for resource needs
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and balance needs of multiple stakeholders simultaneously and prioritize requests 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, adept at developing and maintaining trust with a variety of stakeholders and partners
  • Ability to work well under pressure

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

This position will partner closely with both the U.S. and Canada as well as the Luxury organizations to develop PR strategies that support and advance the company’s Luxury goals. The following are specific responsibilities and contributions critical to the successful performance of the position:

  • Luxury Consumer Demand Generation PR: Responsible for creating a dedicated luxury consumer PR strategy, in close coordination and partnership with the Sr. Director of Consumer PR to ensure overall alignment with the continent PR strategy, highlighting Marriott International Luxury portfolio hotels, destinations, and offerings. This will include developing relationships with a target list of luxury-specific media outlets and managing PR programs that drive media coverage and create a positive perception of our Luxury hotels and brands in top media outlets. The role will partner with U.S. and Canada Consumer PR and Global Brand PR to provide reporting on Luxury PR activities.
  • Executive Thought Leadership: Cultivate speaking and media opportunities for U.S. and Canada executives to amplify Luxury voices with industry audiences and communicate Marriott International’s Luxury story in the continent.
  • Global Brand Initiative Support: Collaborate with Global Brand PR to support brand activations and initiatives in-continent. Ensure the appropriate amplification of Luxury brand messaging in continent PR efforts and activations.
  • On Property PR Deployment: In partnership with Marketing and other disciplines, develop a model for on-property Luxury PR support based on current state assessment and future needs. Deliver recommendations for and implement a future property PR support model for Luxury hotels and work across disciplines (e.g., Finance, HR, etc.) to build a business case and gain approvals, with the goal of enhancing and streamlining the way the continent provides Luxury PR support at the property level.
  • Hotel Tools and Resources: In partnership with Marketing and Global Brand PR, develop luxury-specific PR tools and resources (for example, resources and guidance related to vetting and onboarding hotel-level PR agencies), guide hotels on PR-related performance metrics, and identify opportunities for hotel PR training. Act as a liaison between continent team and individual Luxury properties in rolling out programs and making sure that properties are taking advantage of all opportunities provided through continent PR.

New York Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $110,550.00 to $245,238.00 annually.
