Job Description:

Potential Earnings: $75,000 - $105,000 Depending on Experience

Summary:

The Boyd Group technical trainer is responsible for delivering technical training programs, coaching repair center staff, especially technicians, and working to ensure that technicians have the knowledge and skills to properly and safely repair vehicles. The technical trainer also works with regional and market leadership to bring forward issues that may improve the technical capabilities and skills within the markets. The position reports to the Training Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivers technical training, including I-CAR courses, other training clinics, and other technical training courses in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Visits repair centers to assess technical capabilities, including individual technician’s knowledge, skills and abilities, through observation, experience, and dialogue.
  • Provides coaching to technicians regarding the application of technical skills and building efficiencies in the repair process.
  • Works with technicians, repair center general managers, and market leaders to proactively recommend classes, including I-CAR, and others, that can help technicians improve their knowledge and skills.
  • Monitor and coach for full compliance on our QC processes, including the proper use of the QC sheet.
  • Assesses the capabilities of the repair centers in the assigned area of responsibility to deliver complete and safe repairs by maintaining the proper collision repair tools and equipment. Provides documented feedback to the location, market and regional leadership when tools and equipment need to be upgraded or repaired.
  • Assists in the development of technician trainees by working at a fixed training center and/or working with technician trainees as they progress through Gerber’s standardized technician development program.
  • Develops and improves technical training clinics to teach collision repair skills. Works with the other technical trainers to ensure that a consistent message is being delivered across the network of repair centers.
  • Keeps current on the latest advancements in collision repair processes and techniques and is able to deliver a wide range of I-CAR and other appropriate training. 
  • Works as an active member of the technical training team and supports overall training initiatives such as the sustainable implementation of the WOW Operating Way.
  • Completes and retains all training documentation, including class sign in sheets, I-CAR documentation and training evaluations.
  • Follows all company policies with regard to expense control and expense documentation and properly maintains company assets, including trainer’s tools and the company vehicle.
  • Attends required continuing professional education.

Background Profile or General Requirements:

  • Completed course of studies at a post-secondary school preferred; must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • I-CAR instructor certification (including welding certifications) strongly preferred. If a candidate is not a certified I-CAR instructor, the candidate must be willing and able to be qualified to be an I-CAR instructor.
  • At least 7 years of experience working in the collision repair industry.
  • At least 2 years of experience delivering training is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of independently planning and organizing work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate, motivate and cooperate with all levels of staff.
  • Knowledge of computer applications, including the Internet, Google platform, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable under the company’s auto liability insurance policies.
  • Must be able to travel up to 30%, including some overnight travel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to communicate, motivate and cooperate with all levels of staff.
  • High level of independent planning and organizing work with minimal supervision.
  • Attends any training classes required to assist the role
  • Computer knowledge or willing to take training to become proficient in the following:
  • Completion and creation of spreadsheets
  • Email etiquette
  • Google hangout/meet-other platforms video calls
  • Drive file system
  • Google slides
  • Document creation and editing

Reporting Relationship:

The Technical Trainer will report directly to the Technical Training Supervisor, with strong relationship with TDP Training Supervisor 

Travel expectations:

  • This role will be highly mobile, possibly requiring overnight travel 3 days every other week.
