About the Role

The Principal Systems and Requirements Engineer is a key project technical focal point to product stakeholders both internal and external to Harman. This position requires a broad background in automotive infotainment and digital cockpit systems, as well as deep knowledge in one or more relevant product domains. This position leads system requirements development for assigned program(s)/domain(s) from a technical expertise base without managing a team. Able to provide technical leadership, evaluate tradeoffs, resolve issues, and achieve technical solutions that meet stakeholder requirements. Must be able to communicate effectively and document the resulting product requirements. Serves as the technical interface for assigned program(s)/domain(s).

What You Will Do

  • System Requirements technical Product Ownership for assigned program
  • Develops system functional/performance specifications based on customer and other stakeholders’ specifications to clearly and concisely capture what is required of the product. 
  • Drive and own SRS requirements and traceability through Design, Development, and Test through an end product-driven approach (Test Driven Approach)
  • Documents and maintains product requirement exceptions.
  • Identifies risk level associated with new feature development based on requirements status.
  • Aware of all relevant Federal Standards, industry standards, and internal standards and ensures that resulting designs will satisfy these requirements.
  • Drive reuse: Lead the development of reusable internal requirements, identifying synergies and opportunities for design reuse.
  • Responsible for developing and executing the requirements baseline management process for the project
  • Stakeholder (CPM / Customer) management
  • Customer Program Management (CPM) focal point for Requirements Engineering Technical topics for assigned program(s)/domain(s)
  • Maintains an organized repository of both customer and 3rd party requirements specifications
  • Generate Requirements Analysis Report (RAR) to CPM for new spec package deliveries
  • Supports the sales organization in the business development phase of a program as part of proposal activity, by analyzing customer RFQ specifications and developing technical impact analysis and compliance matrix. 
  • Change Request Requirements Management
  • Responsible for change control management of the project requirements database.
  • Champion Change Request impact analysis and provide results to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Ensures change requests are implemented in the requirements specifications (once approved)
  • Requirements Open Issues Management
  • Captures issues that arise from requirements development and downstream activities
  • Triages issues based on severity and urgency.
  • Interfaces with Functional Owners and other stakeholders to drive the resolution of requirements and open issues
  • Process/Tools
  • Ensures compliance with ASPICE level 3
  • Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for improvements in tools and process
  • Responsible for developing Requirements strategy for assigned program(s)/domain(s) in compliance with ASPICE

What You Need

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering
  • Able to provide detailed reviews on complex/technical specifications.
  • Automotive background with working knowledge of vehicle networking protocols.
  • Experience working in a Requirements Management tool, preferably DOORS and/or DNG.
  • Practical experience in related areas such as system design, hardware/software design, and real-time embedded applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

What is Nice to Have

  • Masters Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Broad technical background with general knowledge of Bluetooth, WiFi, cellular technology, smartphones, navigation, GPS, tuner, satellite radio, video, voice recognition, hands-free operation, vehicle bus, advanced safety, cloud-based services, and automotive requirements
  • Deep knowledge in one or more relevant product domain areas
  • Automotive and/or cellular industry experience
  • Experience managing external and internal vendors/partners
