The Data Centre Technical Architect is responsible for designing and implementing the infrastructure and systems of a data centre, collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translating them into efficient and reliable data centre solutions as part of the pre-sales process.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Design and architect the infrastructure of data centre, including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, power and cooling systems, and physical security measures.
  • Evaluate and recommend data centre services, aligning them with business requirements and ensuring security and compliance.
  • Analyse, develop and recommend long-term strategic plans to ensure data centre meets current and future requirements.
  • Viewed as a trusted technical advisor to the client and provide technical guidance to development teams during the implementation of collaborative solutions.
  • Develop and implement network architectures, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and security.
  • Design and optimize virtualized environments using technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM
  • Provide pre-sales technical support and expertise in analysing client requirements, in conjunction with the client’s current collaboration capabilities.
  • Ensure technical solutions will accomplish the client's objectives
  • Work with internal stakeholders to produce a technical specification for the custom development and systems integration requirements for the solution
  • Develop or produce the technical design document to match the solution design specifications.
  • Working with the relevant internal stakeholders, participate or lead in scope of work determination, product pricing and RFP/RFI responses.
  • Assist with the determination of outsourcing, product pricing and collaborates with others to develop an implementation solution.
  • Create comprehensive technical documentation, including network diagrams, system configurations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Responsible for influencing and guiding members of the Sales team and to ensure that they are equipped to close deals and maintain visibility of forecasting and sales pipeline in order to influence potential deals.
  • Manage client proof of concept (POC) initiatives, which will require the involvement of the appropriate resources, and setup and delivery of the POC.
  • On all assigned engagements, owns the proposed solution and transitions the build / implementation to the delivery team.
  • Specifically relating to opportunity pursuit the Data Centre Technical Architect will:
  • o Evaluate each opportunity for alignment with NTT capabilities and business policy
  • o Prepare the executive summary that outlines all of the information gathered from the client in regards to their needs, as understood
  • o Document the proposed technology solution
  • o Document the statement of work along with all labour requirements
  • o Work with the relevant internal stakeholders to prepare the pricing format that will be supplied to the customer.
  • o Perform the actual solution design and prepare a parts list outlining equipment to be provided.
  • o Develop and manage a proof-of-concept as such may be required
  • o Engage all technical resources required for an accurate solution design
  • o Prepare a network diagram outlining the proposed solution
  • o Document all deliverables and what constitutes a successful completion.
  • o Review the final parts list as supplied and submit all information to the applicable bid team for final assembly
  • o Verify the proposal’s accuracy and sign off on the final documents to be presented to the client
  • o Assist during the final presentation to the client as appropriate

  • Strong knowledge of data centre infrastructure components, networking technologies, virtualization, and cloud computing platforms.

  • Proficiency in designing and implementing network architectures, including LAN, WAN, and virtual networking technologies.
  • Knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls, load balancing, and network security is important.
  • Expertise in server and storage technologies such as virtualization, blade servers, storage area networks (SAN), network-attached storage (NAS), and data backup and recovery systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and services, including infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS), and software-as-a-service (SaaS).
  • Knowledge of cloud architecture, deployment models, and security considerations is crucial.
  • Understanding how to design and optimize virtualized environments for performance, scalability, and reliability is essential.
  • Knowledge of data centre security principles and best practices, including physical security measures, network security, access controls, and vulnerability management.
  • Understanding compliance standards such as PCI DSS or HIPAA Basic understanding of key vendor subscription models such as Cisco EA 3.0

Academic Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study (Computer Science, Information Technology, etc)
  • Vendor product, sales and technology certifications

Required Experience:

  • Seasoned professional technical experience within a large scale (preferably multi-national) technology services environment
  • Experience with virtualization technologies like VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM.
  • Seasoned experience in a professional technical role
  • Seasoned experience as a Data Centre Technical Architect or similar role, designing and implementing data centre infrastructure solutions.
  • Experience in project management methodologies advantageous
