Senior Hardware Developer, Nutanix Hardware Team

We are looking for technology pioneers for our Hardware team that develops and delivers the Nutanix Xtreme Computing Platform and Products.

We are looking for exceptional engineers with the desire to build the hardware for the virtualized data centers of the future. You should have the experience, knowledge of industry trends and next generation technologies, and the knack to take standard x86 servers and storage components and build powerful, energy efficient, highly scalable and highly serviceable converged servers and storage appliances of the future.

The developer will help solve various platform challenges by reviewing various HW options from multiple vendors for server/storage platforms via industry standard methodologies. Candidate should be adept at collaborating with Product Management and Software Engineering on product requirements and capabilities. The proposed solution should meet and exceed reliability, performance requirements by engaging with various cross functional teams.This role provides a very unique opportunity to be the focal point and expert within the company and along with high visibility at Nutanix and its partners. This role has an excellent mix of hardware [Board], firmware [BIOS, BMC] and software [Operating systems, System interface] to keep you engaged.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Develop solutions that solve the scale-up and scale-out of compute, storage and networking problems
  •  Plan and deliver new technology initiatives that encompass multiple disciplines
  •  Engage with customers, product managers and support teams to understand product short-comings and devise a short-term and long-term plans and execute them in timely manner
  •  Devise Hardware platform solutions via test plan enhancements starting with hands-on work with automation first approach and analyzing the results and working with internal/external parties to achieve the desired goals.
  • Evaluate multiple components (Motherboards, Memory, CPUs, Add-On Cards, Server Chassis components) and thermal/power analysis for the data center environment.
  • Evaluate the functionalities of the latest data center storage HW (SSD) & networking (10G/100G) in a virtualization environment. Work with the SW development teams for any HW performance issues.
  • Maintain prototypes/equipment, develop & maintain tools for all programmable HW.
  • Help develop product diagnostics capabilities by participating in field failure analysis and drafting customer responses
  •  Help identify critical components (SSD, HDD, DIMM, PCIe cards, etc.) and their use-case
Desired Skills and Experience
  •  BS/MS/PhD in CS/EE or related fields and 6+ years related work experience
    •  Thorough understanding of modern x86 server architectures and one or more storage/networking technologies (PCIe, SSD/HDD, SATA/SAS, NIC, RDMA, Switches, Intel processors, etc.).
      • Good understanding of BIOS/EFI, BMC, IPMI, Linux, Hypervisor, etc.

      • Programming experience with Python, Shell, or any open source Linux/Window system SW coding. Strong scripting and automation programming skill.

      • Must be self-driven, and be able to work independently with limited supervision.

      • Good verbal communication & collaboration skills.
      • Familiarity with virtualization technologies a plus.
