The University of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Higher Education Administration and Policy position. The Higher Education Administration and Policy program builds upon a rich tradition of excellence in scholarship within the College of Education at the University of Florida. This faculty member will join a collaborative, cohesive, and energetic community of scholars within the College that is committed to high-quality teaching, research, and service.

We seek candidates with scholarly interests focused on contemporary issues in higher education, including but not limited to the following areas: college access; college student persistence, completion, and transfer; organization, leadership, and governance issues in higher education; public policies in higher education; science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) opportunities and outcomes in higher education; and additional research areas of direct relevance to higher education administrators and policymakers. Regardless of area of study, we seek a colleague who can advance knowledge in the field of higher education and enhance the research, teaching, and service of the Higher Education Administration and Policy program. We encourage scholars with strong methodological training in qualitative or quantitative methods to apply for this position.

The successful applicant for this tenure-track Assistant Professor position is expected to maintain a clear, systematic line of research; seek external research funding; publish in scholarly journals; present research findings at meetings of professional associations; contribute to advising and teaching, especially recruiting and mentoring doctoral students. The faculty member will also engage in service to the program, school, college, university, and profession. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in collaborative projects through the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Florida—an interdisciplinary research center housed within the College of Education.

This 9-month tenure-accruing faculty appointment will begin in August 2024 and include the possibility of summer employment. 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct scholarly activities commensurate with expectations of a tenure-track Assistant Professor at a research-intensive university
  • Publish in respected refereed scholarly journals
  • Pursue external funding
  • Teach (face-to-face, blended, and/or online) courses
  • Advise, engage, and mentor graduate students in teaching, research, and outreach activities
  • Participate in program development
  • Provide service to the program, school, college, university, and the profession

Expected Salary:

Salary is negotiable, highly competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Doctorate in Higher Education or a closely related field. ABD candidates are encouraged to apply as long as they plan to earn their doctorate prior to August 15, 2024.
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to conduct rigorous scholarship in the field of Higher Education via publications and presentations at national conferences (commensurate with experience).
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to teach graduate courses in Higher Education, pursue external funding, and serve on dissertation committees (commensurate with experience).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of potential to teach in a Higher Education degree program or closely related subject area
  • Evidence of potential to propose, secure, and successfully manage externally funded projects
  • Evidence of commitment to collaborate with students and other faculty members
  • Ability to contribute to recruitment efforts and the national visibility of the Higher Education Administration and Policy program
