Role Mission

We are seeking a creative, experienced, enthusiastic Project Team Leader for our Cardiovascular & Metabolism Therapeutic Area within the Early Development department. As an experienced leader in early clinical-stage drug development with proven entrepreneurial ability and mindset, you are fully empowered and are responsible and accountable for developing and implementing the strategy for our clinical-stage programs. Your mission is to drive these programs from the early development stage (Phase 0 to clinical proof of concept studies at the end of Phase 2 and to ensure a seamless transition into later stages of development. You will also contribute to broader strategy development in the Cardiovascular & Metabolism Therapeutic Area and you will ensure coordination of both internal and external efforts across the Cardiovascular & Metabolism disease area.

Your Impact

  • Build and implement the project development strategy, working closely with counterparts in pRED functions and Late Stage product development and commercialization
  • Ensure that the overall project vision and strategy for specific Cardiovascular & Metabolism projects is implemented
  • Develop and communicate project strategic options that consider speed, technical, regulatory, business and operational needs
  • Serve as a central Project Team Leader for Cardiovascular & Metabolism projects (Phase 0 through end-of-Phase 2) and cross-functional stakeholders within the matrixed early development community
  • Provide development strategies for Cardiovascular & Metabolism Discovery teams (Pre-Phase 0) with respect to strategic fit and clinical developability of individual projects
  • Build and support business development strategy and opportunities with critical assessments and development plans
  • Represents the Cardiovascular & Metabolism Early Development team both internally and externally at conferences and international meetings

Who You Are

  • PhD, MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent) in with deep expertise in early-stage drug development
  • Significant experience in pharmaceutical or drug development strongly desired; demonstrated track record of translational clinical development (e.g., early clinical trial management, IND filing, experience in proof-of-mechanism or proof-of-concept determination of investigational agents)
  • Strategic leadership. The candidate will articulate strategic clinical frameworks to inform operational delivery of the project(s). The candidate understands how to focus on the delivery of goals, and will have the ability to contribute strategic insights to prioritization and decision-making
  • Ability to communicate effectively: clearly articulate complex concepts at all levels of the organization, encourage direct and open discussions; seek common ground in an effort to resolve conflicts
  • Collaborative leadership. The role requires a leader who inspires diverse individuals to work together, persuades others to pursue innovative ideas and can work with a large number of partners across the organization
