About the Role

We are looking for a super sharp, highly-motivated, forward-thinking senior counsel to be our Deputy / Assistant General Counsel (and third member of the Legal & Compliance team), with a focus on regulatory compliance. This is an exciting opportunity to build our legal and compliance program from the ground up, by interfacing with our business teams, executive staff, regulators and industry groups, outside counsel and vendors to develop and execute on a wide range of corporate, product, compliance and regulatory initiatives requiring creative and proactive legal guidance and process management. You will have an opportunity to make a big impact in a fast-paced organization creating a first-in-kind platform that spans numerous regulated industries. You will also help drive the compliance culture at Rippling and embed integrity and compliance in all of our operations as our company grows.

You Will:

  • Define and build a world-class legal and compliance function from the ground up.
  • Partner with our product team and regulators to efficiently design, build and launch new features.
  • Build legal policies and compliance processes from the ground up, and provide consultation, training, and knowledge sharing to colleagues.
  • Provide guidance and advice to senior leadership on a broad range of topics relevant to the HR and IT industries.
  • Manage vendors and external counsel supporting Rippling’s operations.
  • Develop and deliver engaging trainings and communications on the compliance program.
  • Drive compliance program implementation and effectiveness via monitoring, testing, and auditing.
  • Monitor and self-study on regulatory developments relevant to the HR and IT industries, such as insurance, labor and employment, anti-money laundering (AML), data protection, and ethics 
  • Assist with Rippling’s general corporate legal activities, including financings, corporate transactions, intellectual property protection, litigation and risk management, and so on!

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience directly related to this role, including through big law, in-house, and/or other relevant roles 
  • Subject matter expertise in (a) fintech, insurance, ERISA or other regulatory compliance, and (b) one of corporate transactions, litigation, commercial and IP work, or employment law.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset (flexible, self-starting and hard-working) in generating new and innovative solutions to build out the Legal & Compliance program
  • Demonstrated sound business and legal judgment
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communicator both internally and externally.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Sense of humor
  • Law degree (e.g. JD or equivalent) preferred.
