About the team

Infrastructure team is one of the core teams of the developer platform mission. Its main goal is to increase developer productivity & improve software quality. We increase developer productivity by enabling them to deploy faster and more often. This team owns services that supports the development flow (everything that leads to a production push) and the run-time environment that WeWork software runs in (everything that supports running software in an environment). Development Kit includes CI/CD tools, Infrastructure as code (Terraform), Monitoring & Metering etc. Service Kit includes Kubernetes, Gateway (Kong), Metrics Collection & Alerting (Prometheus), Dashboards (Graphana), Logging (ELK), Security (Vault) etc.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a software engineering team that builds, designs, implements and maintains infrastructure that is used by China tech products and related services.
  • Write and review code, develop documentation and capacity plans, and debug issues
  • You thrive in a fast moving collaborative environment where teamwork and delivery are primary values
  • Ensures their team produces high quality software and deliver results against challenging goals.
  • Hires, develops and retains high performing engineers. Keeps the team engaged and manages performance of team members.
  • Helps team make the right design choices. Drives adoption of engineering best practices and development processes within their team.
  • Able to drive sprints for a squad given strategic or functional direction.
  • Represents a squad or significant functional sub-area. Regularly gives actionable feedback to team members, peers, and mentees.
  • Delivers large projects at quarterly level. Sets and drives OKRs.
  • Taking the engineering lead on building a sprint execution plan. Lead/guide the team through sprint(s) scoping, resource allocation and commitment - the execution plan.
  • Making sure there is an alignment between the sprint objectives and the overall quarterly team objectives. Overviewing all activities lead by ICs within the team to align with the overall sprint(s) plan. Utilizing own team as the main resource; work with external resources as needed
  • Ensure on-time, on-quality delivery of projects
  • You will be working closely with other engineering and product leads from other China tech product teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a closely related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience managing software engineering teams (mentoring junior engineers, setting technical direction, execution etc.).
  • You are passionate about scale, quality, and performance.
  • You have experience
  • with operating systems and TCP/IP network fundamentals
  • one or more languages such as Ruby, Java, Node.js, Go, Python or similar
  • configuration and maintenance of applications such as web servers, load balancers, relational databases, storage systems and messaging systems
  • Experience working within a distributed organization
  • Experience working with global open source communities to achieve shared goals
  • 4+ years back end systems experience.
  • You have excellent written communication, interpersonal communication, and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of delivering successfully within aggressive timelines.
  • MS or PhD degree in Computer Science.
  • 7 years of relevant industry experience, with 3 years of hands-on technical leadership for cloud-based web, mobile and backend application development.
  • Solid foundation in design, data structures and algorithms, and strong analytical and debugging skills with customer-facing products experience.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills along with outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
