C2SMART Center is seeking Research Associates/Post-Doctoral Associates to work on faculty-led research. Candidate will work under faculty and research staff supervision on finite element modeling (FEM) for the crashworthiness analysis of the safety hardware of the transportation roadway infrastructure. The candidate will be working on agency-funded research projects with state, local, university, and private sector partners/collaborators. The candidate will be expected to interact/communicate with numerous project partners as part of a consortium of researchers/consultants, and lead project tasks to fruition against frequent and strict deadlines.

The duties of the qualified candidate(s) for this position include:

  • Finite element modeling and related technical research tasks as directed by faculty
  • Review and analysis of crash testing reports
  • Development, drafting, and review of technical reports and assessments
  • Review of hardware details
  • Coordination of crash testing schedule and details with testing facilities
  • Participation and leading of weekly team coordination meetings
  • Limited travel within New York State

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $58,500 to $90,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate(s) will possess a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a background preferably in multiple research areas emphasizing FE analysis using commercial software packages including LS-DYNA (highly desirable), ABAQUS, etc. Experience in actual crash testing per MASH 2016 at a testing facility, or similar, is highly desirable.

The preferred candidate will possess one or all of:

  • a willingness to work on research projects in a fast-paced multi-institutional role different from theoretical research projects,
  • excellent documentation and communication skills, and
  • a strong team-oriented attitude with the ability to establish work priorities.
