Corporate Strategy & Business Development within CME Group is at the forefront of steering the corporation's strategic trajectory with a keen focus on both organic and inorganic growth initiatives. The team works closely with senior leadership across all departments (e.g. Sales, Business Line Management, Technology) to identify short and long-term growth opportunities, as well as solve critical business challenges. The roles and responsibilities of the team are dynamic in nature, and include evaluating, structuring, and executing on new business opportunities, M&A, joint ventures, strategic investments, commercial partnerships, as well as other complex agreement structures. Charged with the mission of driving corporate expansion and strategic alignment across CME Group stakeholders, the team excels in the art of crafting, fine-tuning, and delivering recommendations to senior leadership and CME’s Board of Directors. These efforts are aimed at solving complex business problems, amplifying the company’s growth trajectory, and maximizing shareholder value.

Corporate Development Interns will be expected to take initiative, work independently, participate in small cross-functional teams and produce high-quality work. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in researching multiple topics for strategic initiatives: Conduct market research, synthesize findings, and work with senior team members to propose recommendations that shape company and product strategy through PowerPoint presentations
  • Help drive the execution of mergers and acquisitions, strategic investments, commercial partnerships, and joint ventures as well as sourcing opportunities, conducting market landscapes, performing financial analysis, coordinating aspects of due diligence, and supporting integration planning and execution
  • Investigate and provide an analysis of competitors, partners, business models, market sizing, and industry trends. Investigates and provides analysis of the merger and acquisition (M&A), venture funding, and public market environment/trends. Conduct market landscape analyses and reviews of companies of potential interest
  • Assist in financial modeling for M&A and investment / partnership opportunities, including valuation analysis, scenario modeling, synergy assessment, and CME Group financial impact analysis (accretion/dilution) by leveraging pertinent valuation and returns methodologies
  • Assist in other ad hoc projects including comps repository build out, strategic sourcing pipeline, and competitor profile benchmarking
  • Develop understanding of key products and business functions within CME Group

Skills / Software Requirements:

  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented individual who is motivated to learn more about, and potentially pursue a career in, the financial services industry
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong financial modeling and valuation skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent research skills
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg terminal is a plus
  • Relevant coursework is a plus

Education:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Prefer majors in Finance, Business, Math, International Relations, Economics, Data Science (with a business focus)

Location and Hours:

  • Internship is local to Chicago, IL
  • Up to 40 hours per week with a flexible work schedule
