Role/Department: eDiscovery Analyst/Corporate Legal 

The primary goals of the eDiscovery Analyst is to support the technical aspects of the legal hold and eDiscovery processes and to provide ongoing support to the Discovery Manager as well as to the Litigation attorneys in the Legal Department. The discovery team is responsible for ensuring the integrity the discovery process and the timely collection and delivery of data in connection with a variety of matters, including government inquiries, internal investigations, fiduciary and commercial litigation demands, and other external requests. The eDiscovery Analyst will be responsible for working with the in-house legal team, outside counsel, and vendors to coordinate discovery activities related to litigation and other legal matters and to serve as the subject matter expert providing in-depth consulting and leadership to internal and external stakeholders to assist in the development and execution a discovery plan.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Work with case teams and other stakeholders to provide project management and process support for litigation and other legal matters throughout all phases of discovery. 
  • Issue legal holds, analyzes custodian responses, and provide updates to case teams within Legal and to external counsel regarding hold responses. Ensure preservation of email, Teams, and other data as needed in connection with the issuance of a legal hold.
  • Provide guidance to attorneys and paralegals on email and Teams search terms and perform email and Teams searches in connection with a wide range of subpoenas or discovery requests.
  • Proactively look for and make recommendations to the discovery manager regarding ways to improve the legal hold, preservation, and data collection processes at Northern.
  • Be an expert in Northern’s legal discovery technologies and support and train partners who are using such technologies. Act as the liaison between the legal department, technology, and other stakeholders on legal hold and discovery issues. Independently troubleshoot, research, diagnose, and resolve reported incidents and issues. 
  • Assist the discovery manager to ensure technologies in use for legal hold, email archival, and eDiscovery hosting technologies are regularly evaluated, implemented and managed in accordance with current legal standards.
  • Work with the discovery manager, as requested, to perform a variety of legal-related tasks and special projects to ensure the effective operation of the discovery function. 

Skills/ Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. 
  • At least 1-2 years of legal, business, consulting or relevant technical experience with a focus in discovery preferred; candidates without relevant work experience who possess a demonstrated interest in subject matter or relevant credentials will be considered.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy, professionalism, and client-service orientation.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise-class production IT systems such as Exchange email, ERP systems, and SharePoint as well as legal discovery tools, such as Exterro and Everlaw.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to enable effective and professional communication with senior, peer, and junior colleagues, attorneys, and vendors.
  • Proven ability to work independently and solve problems with minimum supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be a solution oriented professional with a focus on problem solving and collaboration as a key member of a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to adapt to daily activities that may be presented as rush requests.
  • Basic searching knowledge in Outlook.
