Position Overview

The Project Cost Manager is responsible for the financial project monitoring, providing the CAPEX Project management with information on the progress, invoiced costs, forecast completion, earned value analysis and spending while actively managing project cost risks.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Visible leadership and strong support for Safety, Health, and Environmental principles including Life Saving Rules, policies, and procedures 
  • Create full financial transparency to all stakeholders and recommend appropriate courses of action when results differ from plan. 
  • Educate CAPEX PMs on financial processes/policies and the financial impact of business & operational decisions. Drive process improvements. 
  • Produce weekly/monthly reports, including providing details on project cost progress, actuals invoiced, forecast and explanation of variances. Review KPI’s and drive sustainable improvements 
  • Work with the Project Managers to identify, monitor and manage the Risk / Opportunity in terms of project cost and timing in order to have an accurate cost estimate or forecast. 
  • Create the project budgets based on the team's estimates, analyze the spending to date and forecast to go, conduct Earned Value analysis, deal with cash flow, and payment applications, monitor timesheets, and make accruals, interacts with the Corporate Accounting, and the corporate system JDE, SAP 
  • Focus on cost-controlling initiatives and ensure that unfavorable variances are addressed in a timely manner. 
  • Work with the project team and plant teams to finalize and update needed CAPEX project returns during the concept and feasibility phases 
  • Create and maintain reports on the overall financial health of the entire program, for the benefit of the program Steering Committee
  • Support, demonstrate, and facilitate the concepts of continuous improvement and learning
  • Participate in regular meetings as required
  • Utilize demonstrated best industry practices, techniques, and standards throughout the project execution.
  • Minimal travel requirements
  • Performs other job duties as designated by management or partakes in special projects as directed

Other Requirements

  • Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects. 
  • Occupational Health and Safety knowledge. 
  • Capacity to influence management by providing sound financial rationale
  • Travel up to 25% 

Experience

  • 10 or more years of progressive experience in accounting and finance
  • 2 or more years of experience in marketing or engineering

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration – finance or an equivalent combination of studies and experience.
