Infinera is looking for an intern to join the Optical Hardware Design team. The Optical Design team is responsible for designing the optical line equipment that spans between the optical transmitter and receiver, including the integration with line modules at terminal sites. It is part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes Optical, Hardware, FPGA, and Firmware engineers. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to be exposed to all the different functions within the broader cross-functional team and take part in the development activities of Infinera’s industry leading optical system in capacity and reach, including Infinera’s ICE6 and next generation ICE platforms. Your primary functions would be to assist the Lead Engineers in Optical Design Verification Test (ODVT) and Hardware Integration Test (HIT) during the product development cycle and ensuring the products perform to specifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and execute ODVT & HIT
  • Assist in test automation initiatives
  • Document design test results using established tools
  • Report on test status to team leads and management

Requirements:

  • Experience debugging hardware and firmware
  • Experience with electrical and optical test equipment
  • Experience with implementing automated test scripts
  • Programming skills in Matlab, Python, VB, and other scripting languages
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent team-working skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education:

  • Completed 3rd year, or registered in a Graduate Degree Program in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering program

Position:

  • Temporary full time (40 hours/week) position for 12 months starting from May 1, 2023.
  • Applicants must either be a permanent resident of Canada; or possesses a valid work permit and be exempt from Export Control License requirement as determined by the United States Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and Security.
