  • 12-15 years of experience in the banking or financial industry
  • 10 years of Small Business/Business Banking expertise with experience in loan portfolio management, lending originations, credit training, and negotiating terms
  • 10 years of Small Business/Business Banking expertise with experience in treasury management sales and proforma analysis
  • 10 years of Small Business/Business Banking expertise with experience in process improvements, pipeline management, and a high level of Salesforce proficiency
  • 5 years in directly managing Small Business/Business Banking sales organizations
  • Master of Business Administration from accredited university preferred

Job Description

Small Business Banking Strategic Programs Manager

The Small Business Banking (SB) Strategic Programs Manager leads critical revenue generating initiatives across Small Business Banking and serves as a project leader in enterprise-wide initiatives that intersect with Small Business Banking. Additionally, the SB Revenue Programs Manager supports the segment leaders in planning and implementation of strategic priorities which need to be accomplished and collaborates across the Retail Bank in ensuring execution of initiatives within the Sales Enablement, Business Services, and Risk groups. The SB Revenue Programs Manager analyzes performance results and identifies trends to formulate and recommend an overarching performance improvement strategy for the SB leadership team and will serve as an extension of the Director role to ensure work is identified, prioritized, and completed. Feedback is synthesized, strategies and solutions are crafted and executed effectively, communications are clear, issues are addressed immediately, and initiatives or projects that span the Small Business Banking organization are completed on time and within budget.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Representative for the Small Business Banking organization in implementation and driving of strategic revenue generating initiatives across the organization:

  • Serve as the lead driver and representative for Small Business Banking across the various revenue generating programs which are owned by other areas of the bank including merchant card, treasury, and future platforms such as payroll/401k fee income programs.
  • Identify solutions, provide guidance and support on initiatives that span Retail Bank, including the Sales Enablement Team, Business Services, Strategy and Transformation, and the Risk organization -- as well as other divisions across the organization including support to drive data insights and incentive reporting.
  • Key contact for those within and outside of the Small Business Banking organization trying to find resolution to various issues and work with them to navigate Small Business Banking organizational structure.
  • Partner directly with the Director of Small Business Banking to actively speak on behalf of the Director and contribute to the way the Small Business Banking organization operates and executes.
  • Active coordination with executive leadership and colleagues for awareness, advocacy and/or adoption.
  • Direct and ensure execution of Small Business Banking activities and projects to achieve maximum organizational efficiency.
  • Work with executives and department heads to establish goals, policies and procedures and offer assistance as needed.
  • Evaluate progress and accomplishments through the review of routine and special reports.

Performance Excellence Analysis:

  • Actively lead and consult with the SBB leadership team to drive successful performance through strong coaching routines and sales leadership techniques.
  • Serve as the key subject matter expert and business stakeholder for all Converge strategy and utilization implementation.
  • Review and manage Small Business Banking portfolio management strategy, assignment, and assessment of portfolio growth initiatives.
  • Effectively utilize performance management process to ensure clarity of employee roles, responsibilities, and accountability for performance.
  • Ensure delivery channels are used in an optimum manner and small business banking distribution network is effectively and efficiently servicing business customers.

Collaboration and Partnership:

  • Partner with Comerica's major lines of business including Commercial Bank and Wealth Management through the development of business strategies that deepen and create relationships.
  • Partner with Retail Banking and Banking Center Leadership to ensure successful prosecution of the Small Business and Consumer Segments within the Retail Bank
  • Partner effectively with LOBs to ensure referrals to Small Business Banking are handled with the utmost care, speed, and appreciation.
  • Collaborate with Small Business Regional Directors to ensure Small Business Bankers and Relationship Managers are effectively identifying and referring appropriate opportunities to Commercial, Wealth, and other Partner Groups.
  • Establish communications strategy and cadence together with Internal Communications team to effectively share all Small Business-related messaging within the Bank.

Community Leadership:

  • Drive innovative ideas and strategies for the SBB organization to effectively partner and support the community in which we operate.
  • Establish and maintain key community relationships ensuring strong advocacy for local external stakeholders.
  • Ensure the SBB team is supporting and driving engagement with small business technical assistance organizations and financial literacy providers throughout the geographic footprint.
  • Partner with external stakeholders to communicate the Comerica Bank Small Business Banking story and guidance.

Risk Management:

  • Responsible for ensuring loan portfolio performance within risk appetite framework.
  • Ensure credit exception requests are made with sound rationale, clear mitigants, and transparent oversight.
  • Confirm pricing exception requests and approvals follow the Small Business Banking pricing governance framework.
  • Accountable for overall adherence to policies and procedures of Small Business Banking and the overall Retail Bank.

Salary Range

For candidates hired in the state of California, Colorado, Washington, New York the expected salary/On-Target Earnings (OTE) range for the role is currently:

  • California - $125,400 - $239,800 Annually
