About this opportunity

Everyday Banking is a key platform for Lloyds Banking Group with a very broad reach across the Bank’s customer base and a diverse stakeholder group. The platform is responsible for the end-to-end journeys for personal current accounts and savings products to consumers and providing a market leading customer experience through the servicing of Debit and Credit cards through multiple channels. The platform also includes the Core Banking System and Vault Banking Products labs who support the run and change needed to operate all core banking products for the LBG brands, product APIs, transaction and statement services that are needed for channel interactions.

An exciting role in the lab has become available for a Back-End Software Engineering Lead. The role requires someone hands is capable of delivering stories with our feature teams, whilst also setting the standard for everything Backend and DevOps in the lab, and driving forward interventions and improvements across the lab.

The Banking Lab Feature Teams create software within a web-based Internet Banking system deployed across web, mobile and tablet, as well as for our Branch users.

  • Be a technical leader both within your team and outside, coaching and/or mentoring other more junior engineers as appropriate.
  • Drive the success of your Chapter and the front-end software engineering discipline.
  • Identify and resolve high impacting interventions, and support unblocking recurring issues.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle to design, build, test, deploy and support digital systems.
  • Work with the product and engineering leads to achieve the vision and customer outcomes for your Lab, through writing well-factored and tested code.
  • Influence positively demonstrating the right values and behaviours as we improve how we deliver.

What you’ll need

  • A capable technical lead, who takes ownership of delivery and is willing to help grow and guide junior engineers towards appropriate target architectures.
  • In depth experience of leading software engineers and driving technology improvements. 
  • Diverse technical experience and a proven ability to deliver high quality applications at scale. Strong knowledge of security patterns and best practice advantageous.
  • An advocate for quality and can support the team leveraging approaches such as Pair Programming, TDD and BDD
  • Proven experience in hands-on software engineering using a broad range of technologies including those listed below.
  • Java / Java Script (Spring, Spring Boot, Node), Microservices
  • CI/CD/DevOps tooling experience e.g., GIT, Cypress, JUnit etc.
