Job Description

NBC News Digital is looking for a talented senior producer well-versed in video forensics to join the Digital Docs and Enterprise Video team. This new role will report to the Senior Executive Editor of Digital Video Productions and will be at the forefront of innovative, long-form, in-depth storytelling at NBC News. We’re looking for a strong candidate who sees the video forensic and video analysis opportunities in a fast-moving news cycle. The ideal candidate has experience in forensics storytelling, reporting, and production, including expertise in satellite imagery and CCTV footage, open-source material, user-generated content across social platforms and the web and the latest technology and AI tools, while also maintaining strong traditional journalism skills and practice.

This role requires the ability to work independently and across multiple teams to produce, advance, elevate and showcase the best of NBC News reporting. The Senior Forensics Producer should also be a strong leader with experience managing and leading editorial direction across a team of producers, in addition to effectively partnering with video editors, motion graphics artists and post-production team members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead digital video forensics storytelling for digital docs and enterprise video team. 
  • Pitch original reporting, features and long-form enterprise work that is relevant, revelatory, and impactful that utilizes the best of NBC News reporting.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with open-source imagery, intelligence and information agencies and organizations.
  • Identify video forensic elements and translate those elements and corresponding reporting into a variety of creative, crisp, and innovative video formats and visuals using motion graphics, various visual styles and treatments, etc. 
  • Oversee pieces from inception through publication.
  • Work collaboratively with the post-production team to produce the strongest visual interpretation of the original forensics reporting.
  • Work with the digital text and data graphics teams.
  • Maintain timely understanding of current events and ongoing coverage on NBC News platforms.
  • Text writing, scripting and copy editing when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years or relevant work experience.
  • A proven track record producing exceptional video forensics storytelling.
  • Minimum 6 years experience producing at a major news organization with at least 3 years focused on visual forensics storytelling.
  • Must have experience directly managing a team of producers.
  • Must have a strong body of work in video forensics demonstrating an exceptional understanding of contemporary visual storytelling.
  • Exceptional news judgment and excellent research, reporting, visual forensics, video script writing, and overseeing edits of this genre of video.
  • An intimate knowledge of the video news production process.
  • Nimble in thought and approach and able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must possess creativity, a drive to continue to innovate and experiment within this genre of video news.
  • Able and willing to work flexible hours, under tight deadline pressure, including breaking news .
  • Ability to partner and collaborate effectively across direct team and in a wider news organization.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed.
  • Must be willing to work in NYC.

  • Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
