Thermo Fisher Scientific's Ion Chromatography and Sample Preparation (ICSP) team presents an opportunity for a Senior Manager looking to make a significant impact in the field of analytical chemistry and scientific research. How will you make an impact?

We are looking for a Senior Manager to join our Research and Development team. This position will be based in Sunnyvale, CA, and will be managing a team of scientists driving innovation in electrolytic membrane devices and detection techniques used in IC, and sample preparation.

As a R&D senior leader, this position supports initiatives to deliver growth for the business and set technical strategies to influence the direction of product development portfolio. Also, ensure the alignment, accountability and communication needed for effective execution of new product development and sustaining projects.

What will you do?

  • Monitor and analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to drive continuous improvement and innovation in our ion chromatography offerings.
  • Lead and manage a team of scientists and researchers in the design, development, sustaining and optimization of ion chromatography and sample preparation systems and methodologies.
  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, ensure the successful commercialization of new products and solutions that meet the evolving demands of the scientific community.
  • Foster a culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. By providing mentorship and guidance to your team. Inspire and empower scientists and engineers to push the boundaries of scientific research.
  • Through strategic decision-making and effective resource allocation, optimize R&D processes and drive efficiency.
  • Shape the team's research priorities and strategic direction. By staying abreast of industry trends and customer needs, guide the development of new product concepts and drive the innovation pipeline.
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with external research organizations, industry Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and academic institutions to stay at the forefront research.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards throughout the R&D process.

How will you get here?

Education

  • MS degree in Analytical Chemistry or other relevant scientific fields is required; PhD is preferred.

Experience

  • 12+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • 5+ years of proven track record of successfully leading and managing R&D teams; including hiring, training, and performance management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of analytical chemistry principles, techniques, and instrumentation used in research and development (R&D) settings.
  • Proficiency in leading and managing complex R&D projects from conception to commercialization, including strategic planning, resource allocation, and risk management.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to overcome challenges and achieve project objectives.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex scientific concepts and R&D findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $160,000.00–$230,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
