The Product Design Intern will learn to define, design and deliver product experiences for customers. This position will gain experience collaborating with Design, Product, Engineering, and Research partners and internal and external stakeholders to understand the journey of our users and the challenges they face. The Product Design Intern will work on a core project within the user journey and, with mentorship, execute methods that help bring product strategy and objectives to life. They will learn about the process of incrementally optimizing existing products and designing new products or features.

Internship Details:

  • Hybrid (in-office attendance at our downtown Austin office location on Tuesdays and Thursdays)
  • Internship program dates: June 3 - August 4, 2024 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Learn about translating user and business needs into product solutions
  • Develop, ideate and execute on a core project that identifies solutions to address a known issue using a range of mediums (sketches, wireframes, high-fidelity prototypes, etc.)
  • Participate in the use of data and research analysis to identify problems and/or opportunities and make design recommendations
  • With guidance, learn about business and technical constraints and successfully integrate into designs
  • Receive direction from design leadership and peers and incorporate into designs
  • Work within the supporting design system
  • Communicate design decisions to internal and external stakeholders
  • Present work to leaders, stakeholders and customers in order to seek feedback
  • Gain experience building cross-functional relationships 
  • Collaborate with designers, researchers, engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define issues and opportunities and identify and implement solutions to address them
  • Participate in collaborative sessions between cross-functional peers
  • Share and collaborate on work-in-progress with cross-functional partners
  • Contribute to quality in the end-to-end user experience
  • With guidance, strike the balance between quality and speed to deliver value
  • Support other design teammates in executing tasks that contribute to business objectives
  • Support engineering in the build of product experiences and verify that built experiences function as designed
  • Support research partners in the execution of research activities
  • May identify ideas for product enhancements through review and feedback on existing products
  • Business Trends and Mentoring:
  • Learn about current and emerging industry trends and best practices in the marketplace, especially in user experience design and research
  • Provides support to others on the team

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or higher degree in the study of user experience, HCI, design, or related fields
  • Some experience with designing at various fidelities (user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity designs, etc.)
  • Knowledge of industry-standard design tools, such as Figma, Miro, Sketch, Invision and/or Adobe Create Suite
  • Exposure to product design practices like ideation, storytelling, prototyping, design frameworks, concept visualization, problem-framing and design principles
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with support
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Collaborative and team-oriented work approach
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Careful attention to details

Additional experience preferred, but not required:

  • Experience with or knowledge of the process of working on an in-house product organization, collaborating on a cross-functional team
  • Experience working with ambiguity and complexity
  • Record of learning new technologies and applying that learning quickly

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to use office computer programs such as e-mail, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
