Balyasny Asset Management has flagged the Intern, Quantitative Researcher - London job as unavailable. Let’s keep looking.

With close to 50 economists and 200 economics and government reporters worldwide, Bloomberg has an outstanding capacity to explain where the global economy and geopolitics are now, where they might be heading, and the ways in which the forces interact.

Bloomberg Economics offers a comprehensive macroeconomic research service for Terminal subscribers. That includes detailed forecasts, supported by thorough and original thematic research. The economists also produce previews of major data releases and economic events as well as analysis of the numbers as they break. The goal is to offer Bloomberg clients a deeper insight into the themes that drive policy, financial markets and capital flows.

We’re seeking a quantitative analyst with experience managing sophisticated technology to support economic or financial modelling and research. This person could be based in London, Frankfurt and Madrid.

The role:

The successful candidate will work with Bloomberg's economists to build, automate and publish state-of-the-art models to answer the most important questions about the global economy and markets.

  • You’ll manage the infrastructure that allows us to deliver timely model insights at scale, leveraging a combination of Python and SQL.
  • You’ll support projects that include nowcasting major indicators, identifying the drivers of asset prices, and mapping economic and market outcomes to geopolitical scenarios.
  • You’ll also have opportunities to lead high-priority research, either in collaboration with colleagues or independently with experience.
  • We’ll measure success by the value you add to the modeling, the efficiency you bring to the workflow, and the resilience of processes you put in place.

We'll trust you to:

  • Partner with our economists to plan new projects – from transforming data to preparing models for automation and publishing to production.
  • Take the lead in maintaining and improving existing model automation.
  • Coordinate with teams across the company to publish outputs to data APIs.
  • Curate internal tools and visualizations to support country and global analysis.
  • Improve the efficiency of the broader research workflow.

You'll need to have:

  • 5+ years of experience in a team responsible for economic or financial analysis
  • A degree in a quantitative discipline
  • Demonstrable proficiency with Python, particularly pandas
  • Knowledge of SQL or a keen interest to learn
  • Strong communications skills in English
  • Energy and the initiative to manage simultaneous projects on deadline.

We'd love to see:

  • Experience bringing complex models into production
  • Proficiency with Docker/Linux or a willingness to learn
  • Advanced Python capabilities in areas such as web scraping or machine learning.
  • Experience generating insights from alternative, unstructured data
  • Capability in Matlab, R, Julia or other statistical languages and tools
  • Familiarity with the Bloomberg terminal.
  • Apply if you think we're a good match. We'll get in touch to let you know that the next steps are, but in the meantime feel free to have a look at:
