The following position is to join our RTX Research Center (RTRC) team:

The Advanced Learning and Analytics team researches and develops machine learning, computer vision, reinforcement learning, large language models and human computer interaction solutions for a variety of high impact real world problems in the aerospace, manufacturing, and defense industries.

We are looking for a 2024 summer intern for ~10 to 12 weeks to conduct research in the broad topic of Physics-informed Machine Learning (PIML) or Scientific ML (SciML) techniques which can be implemented to accelerate the modeling and design of complex engineering systems in aerospace and defense domains. You will get to develop state of art machine learning and PIML/SciML tools and apply them to real world datasets at scale.

Interact and learn from leading researchers on the topic working at RTRC. Support for publishing results in top conferences. You will work with a small and focused team on developing PIML tools. You will get to learn about the broad areas of AI/ML applications in aerospace and defense.

Role Overview

The Summer 2024 PIML Intern will be responsible for one or more of the following activities:

  • Algorithm development, software implementation and model training for novel PIML/SciML architecture with physics incorporation as inductive bias.
  • Embedding physics in deep learning architectures semi-intrusively when all the physics are not entirely known or can be modeled.
  • Demonstrating PIML to learn spatiotemporal fields with sparse data.
  • Implementing and operationalizing PIML/SciML.
  • Communicating research results in the form of presentations to internal and external stakeholders and presenting them as written publications.

Required Qualifications

  • Two years of PhD level research experience and fundamental knowledge in the broad area of machine learning and scientific computing.
  • Prior coursework in broad areas of machine learning.
  • Demonstrated track record in developing novel ML architecture and framework.
  • Experience in training complex ML pipelines including deep learning architectures.
  • ML software and coding experience in Python and familiarity with ML frameworks like Pytorch, Tensorflow.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three to Four years of PhD level research experience in any of the following topics: PIML/SciML, Surrogate modeling, Data-driven reduced order modeling.
