The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, founded in 2006, has becomenationally recognized for its innovative programs. It prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism. As the profession rapidly reinvents itself the Newmark J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the tools to find stories and tell them effectively. The school offers two master's degree.
Our unique Engagement Journalism M.A. has helped shape the news industry in meaningful ways. Now, we are looking for someone to direct the program to serve the needs of the future. We believe that skills and approaches around audience, community, product, and entrepreneurship are crucial elements to build a sustainable news business, and we aim to position the program even more strongly as we teach those skills.
The ideal candidate will provide thought leadership in community-engaged journalism and the opportunity it provides to rebuild trust in independent journalism. They will bring professional experience in audience development, product management and/or journalism entrepreneurship, with a proven track record as a collaborative and solutions-oriented manager of people and ideas. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 70% of their work time. For full-time staff, this is equivalent to 7 out of 10 days of in-person work in a two-week period (e.g., 7 days in-person, 3 days remote). Remote days must be pre-approved by the direct supervisor. This hybrid work schedule is subject to change.
Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.
