Job Description:

The Role

Based in Bermuda (strongly preferred) or Boston, the Valuation Actuary is a key member of the leadership team reporting to the Chief Actuary. In this role, you will develop and maintain actuarial models supporting liability valuation and reserving, conduct all required capital calculations, risk assessments, and stress tests, and assist with preparation of reports covering US GAAP, US tax, Bermuda Statutory Financial Statements, Bermuda Economic Balance Sheet, and Bermuda Solvency Capital Requirement. In addition, you will support the Chief Actuary by developing experience studies to support the Chief Actuary’s annual liability assumption review and earnings attribution analysis. You will also work closely with the CFO on the audit, serve as an actuarial liaison with external auditors, and support the development of actuarial accounting policies including US GAAP LDTI..

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Provide actuarial support for the Company’s Investment, Risk, and ALM functions
  • Support the Company’s multi-year financial planning process by maintaining the corporate model
  • Support new reinsurance transactions including the design and operationalization of treaty settlements, validations, data extracts, reports/data flow, US GAAP accounting policy and US GAAP deferrals
  • Other actuarial support as appropriate

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or equivalent
  • 10+ years of US / Bermuda (re-)insurance experience
  • Familiar with US life and annuity product designs and features
  • Strong US GAAP experience
  • Comprehensive actuarial modeling skillset
  • Intellectually curious with an entrepreneurial approach
  • Capable of summarizing and communicating complex topics clearly and succinctly across all levels and functions of the organization
  • Ability to adapt new methods and work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Collaborative interpersonal style supportive of a small team environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage workload with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to be a team player, assisting where needed across various corporate functions to achieve operational goals

Additional preferred skills:

  • User of MG-ALFA/Integrate or similar
  • Audits of US GAAP financial statements
  • Experience in Actuarial valuation process design, controls, and automation
  • Actuarial experience studies, actuarial assumption setting, assumption governance and assumption documentation
  • Financial reporting, accounting, and solvency regimes, including Bermuda Solvency, Solvency II, US GAAP LDTI, IFRS, US Statutory, and US tax
  • Payout annuities and fixed deferred annuities (FIA, SPIA, MYGA, DIA)
  • US PRT market, defined benefit plans, retirement products, regulations, and business models
  • Investment knowledge relevant to life reinsurance, including asset modeling and ALM techniques
