Them is seeking an enthusiastic Social Media editor to manage day-to-day social posting and strategy for the digital team in addition to supporting the brand’s overall audience development goals. This role is primarily responsible for daily posting and scheduling on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter as well as assisting on posting and scheduling for various other platforms including the brand’s newsletter. This role works collaboratively across teams to roll out regular cover launches and packages, deliver on sponsorships, manage social partnerships, and collaborate on growth strategy and tests. 

Along with a passion for queer storytelling and attention to detail, the candidate must have in-depth social media experience and a proven history of growing social audiences. The role is intended for someone who is both knowledgeable of and cares deeply about the important topics we cover, has extensive understanding of and experience working with LGBTQ+ audiences, and is tapped into LGBTQ+ culture on and offline as well as the broader LGBTQ+ media landscape.

The candidate should also have strong writing skills and knowledge of analytical tools, and be enthusiastic about joining an agile team. This person has an instinct for what’s on (and off) brand for Them, has an eye for powerful visuals and what makes a captivating social media and SEO headline, understands how data can inform a smart editorial and social strategy, and excels at juggling multiple projects, managing deadlines, and distilling social numbers into actionable insights. This position will report to Them’s Associate Director of Audience Development and Analytics.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day posting, editing, and optimization of content on multiple social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Manage the daily social calendar and align with editorial on social treatments
  • Work with editorial to craft SEO and social media headlines that are both shareable and resonate with the audience
  • Develop promo plans for brand tentpoles alongside editorial stakeholders
  • Manage the roll out of regular cover stories and packages across social
  • Conduct social audits or tests to optimize content on platforms
  • Work with sales to deliver on sponsorships via social posts
  • Build creative assets for various social platforms when necessary
  • Manage social swaps and partnerships with internal Condé Nast brands as well as external partners
  • Set up the weekly newsletter twice a week with editorial approval
  • Make daily content recommendations to, and work closely with, the editorial team
  • Adjust social strategy according to KPI pacing and report on any wins and losses
  • Demonstrate mastery of Them’s editorial voice across all work outputs
  • Represent the Them brand internally and externally, as needed
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

  • 3-5+ years of experience in social media with a demonstrated track record of finding innovative ways to grow audiences
  • A deep understanding of and experience working within the LGBTQ+ news and pop culture landscape, including an intimate understanding of queer online communities and language
  • Demonstrated experience with publishing and analytics tools, such as SocialFlow, CrowdTangle, Facebook Insights, Parse.ly, and Google Analytics
  • Strong editorial judgment, including proven ability to use analytics and insights to optimize content
  • Familiarity with Them’s content, tone, and voice
  • Positive team player and an enthusiastic work ethic
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - ability to synthesize and communicate information quickly and clearly
  • Excellent organizational skills, focus, and attention to detail
  • Proven history of being a self-starter
  • Must complete an edit test (writing samples or record of previous crafted social posts are a plus!)

The expected base salary range for this position is from $70,000-$85,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.

In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
