What you will do

We continuously work on new and challenging research topics. One of the most exciting research directions is computing on encrypted data via secure multi-party computation (MPC). While data is already protected at rest and in transit, MPC also protects data in use. Here, a fascinating task is building an interactive demonstrator to visually communicate security benefits to end users that are not security experts.

The task to build a secure computation demonstrator includes:

  • designing and implementing a web-based graphical interface for basic workflow (e.g., clients encrypt their data, upload it to servers, servers run computation on encrypted data, clients download and decrypt result)
  • intuitively visualizing computation on distributed, encrypted data
  • visualizing computation results (e.g., dashboard)

The tasks will be supervised and guided by one of our experts in the respective fields. In some cases, we also have bachelor and master thesis topics. Here it is important for us to provide you a topic which also fits the expectations of your university.

The position provides exciting learning opportunities! Specifically, gaining insights about applied research and security, working with domain experts, and sharpening skills to develop web-based demonstrators and proof-of-concepts.

What you bring

  • Student (f/m) at a university or a university of applied sciences
  • Preferred fields of study: Informatics/Mathematics or similar field of study
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in software development
  • Programming: Good programming skills in JavaScript and foundation of web technologies (e.g., CSS, HTML). Experience in designing and implementing web-based graphical interfaces in JavaScript frameworks. Experience in SAP UI5 is a plus
  • Language skills: Fluency in German or English
  • Soft skills: Ability to communicate accurately and proactively
  • Others: Affinity for security, privacy, cryptography is a plus
