Job Summary

The Director, Investor Relations, will play in integral role on Charles River’s Investor Relations (IR) team to help execute the Company’s IR strategy and communicate with both internal and external stakeholders. The Director will fully support the Vice President, Investor Relations with all aspects of managing the IR function at Charles River, including assisting in the development and dissemination of the corporate messaging to effectively communicate the Company’s strategic goals and financial performance to the investment community. The Director will be one of the Company’s spokespeople with investors and sell-side analysts. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that is able to proactively manage their responsibilities, as well as take a consultative approach that enables the IR team to achieve its goals and help to create, plan, and communicate the Company’s longer-term vision to external stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of Charles River’s business, strategy, and financial results to represent the Company to the investment community and Wall Street analysts.
  • Develop written materials, such as press releases, conference call scripts, slide presentations, and question-and-answer documents, in preparation for quarterly earnings calls, conference presentations, and related investor events.
  • Drive IR content creation and new ideas/messaging to refresh the Company’s positioning and demonstrate progress with the investment community.
  • Collaborate with the accounting and finance teams, operational managers, and senior management, including the Chief Financial Officer, to gather and analyze information for the financial reporting process. 
  • Serve as a liaison to certain investors and sell-side analysts to respond to day-to-day inquiries and provide up-to-date information about recent developments and trends affecting Charles River, in compliance with applicable SEC rules and regulations.
  • Periodically attend conferences and travel to other investor meetings with senior management.
  • Become an internal expert on the competitive landscape by analyzing and tracking peer news and market trends for dissemination to senior management and for use in competitive positioning and benchmarking.
  • Conduct detailed financial analyses and competitive benchmarks to help determine key fundamental drivers of the Company’s performance.
  • Work collaboratively as the IR liaison to the Corporate Citizenship/ESG working group team to ensure the effective disclosure of the Company’s ESG initiatives and progress to the investment community and other key stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing and executing an IR program and tracking performance based on industry benchmarks.
  • Monitor and analyze data relating to the shareholder base, trading activity, relevant industry data, and peer company performance, and make recommendations based on observations.
  • Assist with targeting activities to identify potential shareholders.
  • Assist with the preparation of detailed IR updates, including stock trading and shareholder information, for presentation to senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Manage meeting requests and associated logistics with investors, analysts and Charles River’s senior management team. 
  • Plan investor events (e.g. investor conferences, investor days, road shows, etc.) and work with management to develop presentations and associated materials.
  • Manage the IR database (including contact management system), the IR web site to ensure timely updates, and relationships with external IR vendors.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a related discipline. MBA preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of related experience in finance or investor relations. Life science, biopharmaceutical, or related industry experience preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure: None.
  • Location: Metro Boston area or remote with travel to Boston area. If remote, this position will require periodic travel to Massachusetts to fulfill job responsibilities, as well as some other travel. 
  • Other: Comprehensive financial analytical skills including ability to effectively analyze financial statements and other financial information; Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral); excellent research skills; outstanding attention to detail, proven time management and organizational skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships.

Compensation Data

The pay range for this position is $165,000/yr. - $195,000/yr. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

The Corporate Functions provide operational support across Charles River in areas such as Human Resources, Finance, IT, Legal, Sales, Quality Assurance, Marketing, and Corporate Development. They partner with their colleagues across the company to develop and drive strategies and to set global standards. The functions are essential to providing a bridge between strategic vision and operational readiness, to ensure ongoing functional innovation and capability improvement.
