We’re seeking an experienced HR Business Partner (BP) to help us create meaningful experiences for our Retail employees and candidates. The BP, Retail is an essential role in developing and delivering people-related services, processes, policies, practices, and projects for our Retail teams.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in human resources, with a focus on Retail operations and company-wide employee engagement initiatives. You will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, training & development, and employee relations for our stores (6 existing locations and 6 new stores). The BP, Retail will also deliver employee engagement initiatives across all areas of the company (retail and corporate) to reinforce our culture of community, belonging, and care for others. You will work closely with store leaders and employees, as well as partner with corporate employees at all levels..

You will report to the Director, People & Culture.

Responsibilities include:

  • Retail
  • Support and partner with the District Manager and Store Managers to actively and passively identify and attract new talent to fill key positions.
  • Provide strategic and creative methodologies for recruiting top talent.
  • Help with the tracking and analysis of KPIs, both within the People Team and the stores – including turnover, recruitment, retention, compensation trends, performance, and engagement.
  • Provide hands-on support to managers and employees by maintaining both a virtual and physical presence in the stores.
  • Identify external organizations, local events and conferences that help create new sourcing channels for short-term and long-term hiring needs.
  • Facilitate the hiring process, including the coordination of offer letters, reference and background checks.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws governing various aspects of HR.
  • Act as the main point of contact for employee relations issues, skillfully and empathetically handling coaching moments and sensitive conversations with Store Managers employees.
  • Partner with Director, People & Culture and Director, Store Training & Communications to develop and deliver professional development tools and resources to Retail teams.

  • Promote an inclusive work environment and develop employee engagement initiatives (recognition programs, engagement surveys, celebration of heritage months, etc.).
  • Analyze People Team metrics and data to assess the effectiveness of employee engagement programs and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices related to retail and employee engagement, and recommend innovative solutions to enhance the employee experience.
  • Support additional People & Culture initiatives as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience with 4+ years as an HR Professional (in a HR Coordinator, Generalist, Recruiter or Business Partner role).
  • Startup experience is a plus.
  • Extremely responsive, optimistic, and organized with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects/tasks while prioritizing objectives.
  • Has full-cycle recruiting experience - ability to proactively source candidates through multiple channels, built and maintained a network of professional relationships.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with client groups and leaders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing and collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Superior presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to create effective and engaging presentations.
  • Is a proactive doer who will research and seek out answers to get results. Is highly self-motivated yet possesses the ability to both lead and follow as circumstances require.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistent follow through on projects and tasks; independently sees work through to completion.
  • Must be comfortable with technology including knowledge of Google Suite, and HRIS & ATS systems (experience w/ Namely, Lattice & Breezy a plus).
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws/regulations, a plus.
  • Ability to travel periodically to our stores.
  • Must be able to keep information strictly confidential.

This role can be based in either our Summit, NJ headquarters or our NYC office. We believe our business and our culture are strongest when we work together in person. We also know that it’s helpful to have flexibility to work remotely. Currently we are operating under a hybrid model whereby all teams work in an office a minimum of two days per week (Tuesdays/Thursdays) and may be provided flexibility to work from home on other days. There may be times when you’re asked to work in another office and travel to stores because it’s in the best interest of our business or your team.

The annual base salary range for this role is $75,000 to $130,000. It is important to note that our salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size, industry, and the market and are one part of the total rewards that we provide. Individual pay rate decisions are based on several factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, scope of the role, and internal peer benchmarking.
