What does the Home & Life Wireless Hardware Applications Engineering team do? 

Silicon Labs applications engineers are utilizing their domain specific expertise to provide engineering technical collateral like documentation, code examples, and customer technical support related our IoT products, including multi-protocol wireless SoC’s, and ARM Cortex-based MCU’s. Silicon Labs wireless portfolio includes many different transceivers and wireless MCUs for applications like Bluetooth, Zigbee/Thread, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, and proprietary wireless radios. Our devices simplify design effort, reduce BOM cost and accelerate time to market for a wide range of industrial and communications applications. 

The Wireless Hardware Applications Engineering team at Silicon Labs is a critical link between our products and the end customer’s success, and its primary function is to support our customer’s rapid prototyping and development of their systems using our products. We are application and product experts who provide our customers with technical guidance and contribute to the knowledge base and technical documentation for the products.

What You Will Do: 

In this role you will be working with our cutting-edge wireless MCU and transceiver products. You will have a direct impact on the success of those products through your work by supporting our customers as they design and build connected systems. 

Here is what your daily role will look like: 

  • Coordinate a multi-site team of 6-8 engineers responsible for the following:
  • Work with internal teams or directly with customers to answer technical questions related to their electronic hardware design; help them in their debug procedures, solve difficult technical issues 
  • Write technical collateral, including application notes, white papers, knowledge base articles, quick start guides, reference designs 
  • Collaborate with world-wide IC Design, Software Engineering teams on debugging issues with existing products 
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing teams on new product definitions, customer priorities, deliverables, schedules 
  • Manage people, commitments, schedules, tracking, delivery 
  • Manage tools, instruments, capital and operational expenses associated with the team’s activity 

Skills Needed 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Experience as a Hardware Design Engineer
  • Experience in a Team Lead role and strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team effectively. 
  • Experience with RF electrical engineering fundamentals and methodologies 
  • Experience in customer-facing roles, such as technical support or pre-sales engineering.
  • Ability to learn new technologies to build and grow skills across MCU and Wireless technologies 

We consider the following experience as a plus 

  • Experience in wireless communications such as BT/BLE, Wi-Fi, 802.15.4 mesh networking, or sub-GHz proprietary radio communications and related regulatory standards 
  • Experience in signal processing and/or protocol stacks e.g. Thread, Matter, Z-Wave. 
  • Experience with variety of software productivity tools such as Git, Jira, Confluence, etc.
