The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for ensuring students are counseled and packaged proactively throughout their time as a student. The Counselor provides high-level and time sensitive customer service to Park University students, through student engagement and thorough understanding of the Financial Aid process. The Financial Aid Counselor must be able to collaborate with students, colleagues and the Associate Director through professional and effective written and oral communication.

Position Accountabilities:

  • Student engagement - Meet with prospective students and parents. Explain the financial aid process and answer questions via face to face visits, emails and phone calls. Educate students on their My Park and Financial Aid Portals. Communicate Financial Aid regulations to students effectively, in order to increase their understanding of the process.
  • Financial Aid facilitation - Evaluate student files thoroughly and proactively, in order to inform student of what is needed and to be expected in the Financial Aid process. Package students who need to be manually packaged or need financial aid adjusted in a time efficient manner. File documents that students turn in quickly and effectively for processing.
  • Current policy - Remain knowledgeable of current regulations and policies governing the US Department of Education, Park University, State of Missouri, and other agencies responsible for approving and providing aid to our students. Apply appropriate agency rules when packaging students. Maintain working knowledge and application of Park University’s policies and procedures.
  • Department collaboration - Navigate and execute tasks effectively through SFS systems with excellent time management skills. Work in collaboration with the Associate Director and colleagues to provide seamless financial aid service.
  • Student retention - Play a support role in student retention. Attend campus recruitment and retention activities. Act as a liaison between departments and students when needed, to include: Campus Centers, Admissions, Student Accounts, Registrar, Academics.
  • Other duties as needed in support of department or university goals.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Detailed knowledge of higher education, federal regulations and experience in financial aid office or related industry.
  • Strong customer service, organizational and computer skills.
  • Self-motivated while performing a variety of tasks.
  • Must be able to do research and detailed work.
  • Computer knowledge is required.
  • Must be proactive, innovative, and positive to have a strong collaborative team focus.
  • Must be in good standing in all federal Title IV Aid.
