We are recruiting for an Executive Director to lead the Asia Equities Product Control team based in Hong Kong and Mumbai. The candidate will have oversight over the Asia Equities Product Control team of 40+ people, of which they will be directly responsible for managing the Asia Equity Cash and Equity Derivative Group (EDG) product controllers consisting of approx. 25 people. The candidate will report into the Global Cash and EDG Product Controller. The role will suit someone with extensive Product Control knowledge and expertise who is looking to progress their career to the next level.

The Asia Equities Trading business comprises the following sub businesses:

  • Cash - main activities are Agency and Principal Risk trading stocks for clients and is predominantly a commission-based business.
  • Equity Derivatives Group (EDG) - primarily market making and structuring transactions for clients:
  • Volatility – Market making business offering a wide variety of Options, Swaps, Convertibles and Structured Notes solutions to clients covering the Flow, Exotics, Delta One, Corporates and Convertible Bonds desks.
  • Financing – Predominantly offers clients bespoke Equity based financing structures and products.
  • Prime Finance Services:
  • Prime - Main activities are Synthetics, Stock/Borrow Lend and Margin Financing activities.
  • Clearing - Futures & Options (F&O), Over the Counter Clearing (OTC Clearing) and OTC Intermediation.

The role encompasses responsibilities for both Profit & Loss and Risk with significant interaction with a range of stakeholders from Front Office, Market Risk Coverage and other key business and control functions. 

As the regional lead for Asia Equities Product Control, the candidate will act as local manager for the broader Asia Equities Product Control team and will be the primary point person for senior management in location, specifically the Asia CFO and Asia Regional Controller. The candidate will also be a lead representative for local regulators and external auditors.

The Equities business has seen significant growth and is continuing to expand in the region. There is also a significant strategic change agenda ongoing within Equities Product Control. The successful candidate will need to represent Equities Product Control as part of the regional expansions and lead Product Controls change agenda in the region. The role requires an experienced controller with a proven track record of leading change and developing teams. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Managing and developing the Asia Equities Cash and EDG Product Control team of 25+ people responsible for the production and reporting of the Daily Profit & Loss and Risk and ensuring it is completed in an efficient and controlled manner
  • Responsible for integrity of the balance sheet and accounting for the business
  • Providing detailed analysis and commentary on the financials to desk heads, business managers, and senior finance management
  • Partnering with the business and its stakeholders to implement robust controls and implement strategic initiatives 
  • Identifying and Implementing continuous improvements and ensuring processes adapt to meet changing systems and control requirements
  • Creating an inclusive and equitable working environment that builds a culture of trust and gives all team members the opportunity to learn, grow and achieve goals

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 12 years of Product Control experience or equivalent 
  • Extensive experience within Product Control related to equity products and derivatives and experience of leading and managing large teams
  • Demonstrable ability to lead strategic initiatives
  • Solid understanding of Equity Derivatives and an understanding of associated exotic products including accompanying risks
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail including a strong control focus
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to develop strong working relationships
