WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for conducting mechanical and thermal calculations to support the Pierburg product development process which includes working closely with the local engineering and design groups as well as the central simulation departments in Europe. The position is belonging to the business unit Power Systems delivering components for combustion engines or electric drives of vehicles including thermal management, air management, fuel cell components, pumps, valves and actuators. The CAE engineer is responsible for all simulation requirements at Pierburg in Auburn Hills.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master degree in mechanical engineering, physics or similar (e.g. computational engineering).

  • Very good knowledge in statics, dynamics, thermodynamics and materials engineering.
  • 3+ years industrial experience in the development of engine or powertrain components using numerical simulations.
  • Must have experience with FEA software (ANSYS Workbench [preferred], ABAQUS, Altair, COMSOL, MARC or NASTRAN).
  • Knowledgeable in numerical optimization software (optiSLang [preferred], OptiStruct or other).
  • Experience with fatigue software (NCODE, FEMFAT or other).
  • Innovative thinking as well as ability to make contact and willing to cooperate in global team environment.
  • Knowledgeable in 3D-CAD, CATIA V5 [preferred].
  • Efficient in writing, communication and presenting results.
  • Willingness to travel as needed and to work abroad for training purposes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supporting the product development process by simulations, by validation of simulation against measured data, by improvement proposals.

  • Planning and execution of FEA calculation workflows including NVH, acoustics, thermal analysis, fatigue and optimization.
  • Works closely with other CFD and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) engineers in the simulation group in modeling, setting-up conditions, running analyses, interpreting results and presenting reports.
  • Communicates and supports closely managers and engineers in making appropriate use of FEA results for the product development.
  • Active contribution to product optimization by independent development of structural modifications of the design, e. g. with topology or parametric optimization methods.
