Overview

The Youth Development Specialist will be a core member of the Beacon Leadership Team and will work from 18hrs. In addition to being responsible for providing safe school age childcare and teen programming that will build on participant’s strengths and give them an opportunity to build new skills, the Activity Specialist will provide task supervision for assigned part time group leaders. With a specific focus on Ladders to Leaders workshops.

Reports to: PROGRAM DIRECTOR, BEACON AT PS 15

Location: 71 Sullivan Street Brooklyn, NY 11213

Hours: 18 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt (Evening hours and possible Saturday hours)

Salary: $21.97 - $24.72 per hour

Major Duties:

  • To develop and implement programming for middle and high school youth in recreation, education, and leadership development.
  • To help develop and implement program engaging middle school and high school youth in career exploration through workshops and
  • To develop programming and community service projects that will engage middle school youth and adolescents in providing services as well help them build employment
  • Provide task supervision to assigned part time group leaders with focus on Ladders to Leaders workshops
  • Maintain supervision notes and report to Beacon Director around challenges and needs of supervisees
  • Attend and present at meetings with funders as
  • Participate in ongoing city-wide effort to incorporate Ladders to Leaders in all Beacon programs
  • Maintain attendance records and other monitoring tools as
  • Creating and maintaining lesson plans for groups and activities as
  • Assist in planning and implementation of community wide special events, on/off the
  • To be a part of the Beacon leadership team helping to assess the effectiveness of programming and problem solving to best meet the needs of
  • To develop and implement evening activities for youth ranging from 12 –
  • Assist in facilitating events for other co-located
  • Attend and participate in annual staff and participant
  • Develop curriculum and documentation of after-school group, teen and family
  • Lead and facilitate workshops for staff
  • Participate in team and staff meetings and supervise assigned youth
  • Perform other duties as

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s degree and one or more years of related experience, or Associate’s degree and two years experience in youth development programs preferred or 3 years Youth Development
  • Valid driver’s
  • Proven client sensibility and the ability to communicate effectively with staff of all
  • Must be able to lead and participate in group sports and/or
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development
  • Must be flexible to work different hours, as needed, to assure continued program services to the community
