A Brief Overview

The Senior Clinical Exercise Physiologist S-CEP serves as an expert in components related to clinical exercise physiology The minimum job requirements include all the Level I CEP, including analyzing patients' medical history to determine the best possible exercise and fitness regimen, develop fitness and exercise programs that help patients recover from chronic diseases and improve cardiovascular function, body composition, and flexibility. They also need to be fully competent in running a variety of exercise-based assessments, including multimodality cardiopulmonary exercise testing with patients with a variety of pathologies.

The primary responsibilities of the S-CEP are (i) quality control, development and maintenance of the CPX lab (Cardio Pulmonary Exercise lab), (ii) hiring, training and in servicing CPX technicians (iii) inter and intradepartmental communication with other senior members of Echo Lab and SHC.

What you will do

  • In addition to the duties performed by the (CEP I) , the (Sr. CEP) will perform the following job functions:
  • Conducts initial evaluations to assess the patient’s ability and readiness to begin Cardiac Rehab
  • Develops individual treatment plans for each patient including goals and time frame and communicates this to the patient and physician.
  • Prepares and executes personalized exercise plans.
  • Uses appropriate process in planning, evaluating and documenting care for patients
  • Recognizes dangerous cardiac arrhythmias and takes appropriate action.
  • Participates in monthly team conference to include Sports Medicine physician and consults with other team members to coordinate any special assessments needed.
  • Develops and conducts appropriate exercise testing for Sports Cardiology patients
  • Participates in hiring for CPX lab personnel, conducts training and precepting for CPX lab personnel
  • Maintains and develops CPX lab to keep up with industry and quality standards
  • Conducts and completes summary describing patient’s progression and achievement of desired goals.
  • Participates in team and hospital wide meetings, committees and initiatives as assigned
  • Department champion for hospital and department initiative.
  • Hospital committee member. Regular member of a committee that meets at least once per month.

Education Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology or equivalent
  • PhD in Clinical Exercise Physiology preferred or equivalent

Experience Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years experience in cardiac rehabilitation program or a minimum of in a fitness facility/hospital cardiology test unit with patients (high-risk patients preferred).
  • Experience in management/ leadership positions preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the current Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription
  • Knowledge and understanding of the implication of exercise for persons with cardiac disease and risk factors.
  • Knowledge of advanced electrocardiographic and hemodynamic responses at rest and during exercise.
  • Understanding of metabolic and orthopedic disorders relevant to cardiac rehabilitation.
  • Understanding of advanced electrocardiographic and hemodynamic responses at rest and during exercise.
  • Knowledge of exercise protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in updating and maintaining procedure manuals pertaining to assigned areas and acts as a resource for staff regarding policies and procedures.
  • Assists in assuring that department procedures and policies are up-to-date and followed; that work is performed in a timely, accurate manner and of high quality. Ensures that interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, and other staff are cooperative and courteous and that efforts to ensure high quality of information and service to patients and physicians have highest priority.
  • Assists in overseeing workflow, work assignments, operational effectiveness, human resources, and the resolution of technical and non-technical problems for the department in his area of responsibility. Participates in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents, and faculty.

  • Ability to implement proven motivational and exercise-counselling strategies to facilitate behavior change and enhance self-management.

Licenses and Certifications

  • CEP - Clinical Exercise Physiologist .
  • BLS - Basic Life Support .
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support .
  • ACSM - Exercise Specialist Or Personal Trainer preferred .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $59.14 - $78.37 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
