Others on the program including: Precinct Leaders, Development Managers, Planning, Commercial and Procurement team, Technical staff, functional support (HR, Finance, Admin) and Client

Job Purpose 

The purpose of this role is to run large consulting projects or large capital projects with the necessary support and coaching from the District / Precinct Director / designated program executives.

This project professional will devote their efforts to directing the success of projects through achievement of project objectives and KPI’s and be responsible for the management and coordination of engineering, design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, quality, health and safety, finance and administration, and cost and schedule activities of the projects as well as the development of personnel on designated areas of the projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Actively promote and demonstrate a strong “BeyondZero” safety culture in project design and working environment
  • Lead Safety in Design on building projects and ability to apply and communicate Safety in Design process, risks and resolutions on projects to wider business. 
  • Ability to run a Safety in Design meeting and actively contribute to hazard identification in design, construction and operation. 
  • Ability to conduct Safety investigations, inspections and audits
  • Ability to identify safety hazards at the construction site and workplace and enforce appropriate mitigation measures
  • Ability to demonstrate safety leadership through role modelling a “Safety First” attitude and behaviours
  • Maintain and build on existing client relationships, encourage team to work as an integrated team, through an understanding of client needs and effective communication
  • Support and promote a strong service delivery to internal and external clients
  • Identify and address issues that would impact on desired project outcomes
  • Support Senior Project Managers / Project Managers / Precinct Director / Project Executives managing risk, project delivery, HSE, quality and service
  • Provide regular progress information to allow accurate reporting of design & project construction progress 
  • Provide technical oversight to the design team and be responsible for completion of Design phase from end of Concept Design
  • Compliance with all requirements of the design quality system 
  • Manage and undertake technical and interdisciplinary reviews of deliverables where appropriate 
  • Recommend and establish procurement and construction contracting strategy
  • Work with procurement team to preselect contractors and interview contractor bidders
  • Coordinate preparation of tender packages
  • In coordination with the procurement team manage the bid process, select contractors, sub-contractors and establish site offices
  • Negotiate necessary contracts with contractors and sub-contractors
  • Administer contract and contractor activities
  • Lead and participate in onsite project progress and coordination meetings through design, construction and testing and commissioning 
  • Ensure design and/or construction projects are in accordance with QIC systems and processes 
  • Balance resource requirements to meet project and pipeline expectations, collaborate with Precinct Leaders, Project Director/s and Development Managers
  • Identify and communicate resource availability / constraints
  • In coordination with the commercial team prepare project cash flows on basis of construction costs
  • Review and recommend monthly drawdowns
  • Lead negotiation for project practical completion and initial acceptance
  • Lead negotiation with contractors and consultants for final closeout
  • Participate and promote in resource sharing opportunities across the Programme
  • Build appropriate relationships with relevant project stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Support and motivate other team members to achieve “best for project” outcomes
  • Provide feedback and coaching to team members and peers on progress within a project and design environment
  • Support and mentor staff to expand their professional development and enhance project delivery excellence and team performance
  • Provide leadership and direction in delivery of challenging or complex contracting mechanisms 
  • Support Section Leaders in setting goals with project team members to support delivery of project outcomes where appropriate
  • Ensure the team are using the appropriate programme tools for capturing integrated project performance
  • Responsible for project performance and achievement against budget, schedule and risk mitigation
  • Lead the coordination, finalisation and presentation of regular project progress reporting
  • Responsible to ensure project team members and self-comply with the applicable Code of Conduct policy

  • Contract management, commercial management, risk management and dispute resolution;
  • Proven ability to develop strong relationships and work in an integrated team environment; 
  • Ability to lead and deliver value propositions, commercial understanding, risk management, and resource management.
  • Minimum of 15-20 years of experience in program and project management on large capital projects
  • Four-year university degree is required.
