American Humane is seeking an experienced Director, Digital Fundraising who will be responsible for overseeing and executing our digital fundraising strategy. Position summary: 

The Director, Digital Fundraising, in collaboration with the SVP & Chief Growth Officer (CGO), Associate Vice President, Development Operations (AVP), and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) will be responsible for overseeing and executing on a comprehensive digital fundraising strategy for American Humane. The Director will develop plans for acquiring new and retaining existing donor audiences through a multi-faceted digital approach. Working in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications teams and organizational leadership, this will include the strategic and creative development of digital campaigns and properties as well brand development and enhancement across owned and paid channels.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with Development, Marketing and Communications teams to develop high-level digital fundraising strategy including campaign calendar, cadence, target audience, and platform as part of a broader organizational marketing strategy.
  • Manages day-to-day tactical campaign execution to ensure strong growth of digital revenue.
  • In collaboration with CGO and AVP, sets the annual online revenue goals and is responsible for meeting those goals.
  • Manages digital fundraising communications calendar to ensure all timelines are met and projects are completed as planned.
  • Manages investments in digital advertising strategies that build brand, generate leads, and drive advocacy and fundraising.
  • Proactively manages and collaborates with external vendors and consultants to ensure contract deliverables are met.
  • Serves as knowledge base and primary point of contact for CRM and CMS management.
  • Implements and monitors testing, metrics and analysis of digital fundraising and constituent cultivation campaigns.
  • Collaborates with other members of the Development team, including Major Gifts and Planned Giving, and Communications and Marketing teams, including social media, to coordinate messaging, share metrics, and develop integrated strategies.
  • Integrates online messaging/communications with direct response campaigns to ensure messaging cohesiveness and coordination across the organization.
  • Ensures all digital fundraising content goes through the appropriate review process to make certain accuracy of messaging and brand alignment.
  • Builds on the success of the current digital programs by utilizing data analytics to grow the donor base and net revenue.
  • Generates and monitors performance reports across web, email, social and CRM, to measure strategic outcomes and improve tactical processes in coordination with other established metrics.
  • Makes strategic, data-driven decisions to drive channel optimization, including email segmentation, web layout and paid ad targeting.
  • Works closely with the Communications and Marketing teams on the administration and development of website and social channels as related to fundraising efforts.
  • Manages strategy, testing and implementation for donation form optimization.
  • Assists in the management of day-to-day maintenance of American Humane’s websites and oversees the development of web page infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoots for any website issues, including after hours.

Essential experience, knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in web development, computer science, information systems, communications, IT, journalism or other related field required.
  • 5(+) years demonstrated leadership in managing a dynamic digital fundraising program.
  • Broad knowledge of industry best practices, standard operating procedures, and new approaches to digital fundraising, system integration, and organizational efficiency.
  • Proven website management experience (design, development, coordination, application, installation, modification and maintenance of websites).
  • Familiarity with reporting, testing and optimization tools including Google Analytics, Facebook Analytics, Optimizely and others.
  • Advanced understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and data exchange technologies and general knowledge of Web-related programming and systems analysis procedures.
  • Experience working with a large variety of open-source tools, including programming frameworks.
  • Ability to write standards-based, semantically correct code following SEO best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Web 2.0 with an emphasis on social media integration.
  • Experience maintaining and managing organizational social networking accounts (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) in coordination with campaign, online communications and overall strategic plans.
  • History of experience that highlights creativity, self-motivation, resourcefulness, and initiative.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills to analyze data and understand its relationship to the overall fundraising objectives and ability to provide a written assessment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Use sound judgement and discretion in handling and securing confidential information, as well as ability to conduct oneself in a highly professional manner.
  • Ability to work well both as part of a team and independently in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and goal-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks that have competing and demanding deadlines.
  • Availability and flexibility to work company operational hours, including weekday evenings and weekends.

Physical demands and work environment: 

  • Position will be a hybrid of in-office and remote telework based out of the Washington, DC headquarters office location with regular telework schedule based on organizational policy, need and manager discretion.
  • Must be o.k. being around animals, especially dogs, in the office and at events and other functions. 
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be regularly required to:
  • Sit for extended periods;
  • Look at and work off of a computer screen for extended periods;
  • Talk, hear and exchange information over the telephone and in person.
  • Ability to work remotely after hours as needed.
