About the Role: The Managing Editor for Global Business of Law will have the ability to work with a senior team of leaders on executing the content strategy for this industry-leading publication, both in print and online. As one of the brand editors, the managing editor will work closely with other editors for The American Lawyer as well as the editors responsible for our company-wide business of law coverage. The editor will be a driving force of our daily and longer-term coverage, ensuring The American Lawyer is delivering timely news and analysis on the business of law that our readers can’t get anywhere else. The managing editor will ensure our readers are benefiting from insights on the development of the business of law around the world, working closely with Law.com International editors to accomplish that goal.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring online content gets to readers in a timely and appealing way, working with editors on timing, headlines and story ideas
  • Managing the online presence of The American Lawyer, including setting and deploying newsletters and creating online packages
  • Managing the print publication of The American Lawyer magazine, including working
  • with editors, reporters, production and art to ensure stellar content and on-time, high-end production value
  • Leading the collection, layout and analysis efforts of our major rankings, such as the Am Law 100/200, Diversity Scorecard, Pro Bono Scorecard, Midlevel Associates Survey and more
  • Editing magazine features
  • Editing daily copy, as needed, for the business of law and international teams
  • Writing magazine and daily articles and features
  • Meeting with industry sources and bringing back story ideas for the reporters
  • Attending and speaking at industry conferences, serving as a thought leader in the space
  • Working with our advisory boards, including the Young Lawyer Editorial Board
  • Work with contributing authors and outside public relations professionals to vet and publish contributed content
