Dematic is searching for an Mechanical Engineering Manager for our new start-up location in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Come be a part of a team that leads with innovation and passion. You will need to be a self-starter with a "can-do" attitude to be successful as the Mechanical Engineering Manager, as you will be one of the first leaders hired onsite, responsible for building a team of Mechanical and Design Engineers, among other leadership activities onsite. Some of your key responsibilities will be as follows:

Project Execution

  • Ensure all team members have the tools and training to perform required tasks in all work locations safely and efficiently.
  • Promote safety culture across organization with a focus on zero incidents and 100% compliance.
  • Ensure accuracy and achievement of performance KPIs for quality, on-time delivery, and cost.
  • Proactively clear roadblocks to KPI target attainment for project teams.
  • Foster a culture of compliance through open communication and by empowering all team members to raise potential compliance concerns through the available channels.
  • Manage project execution risk through validation of project inputs (as-sold project documentation and the project schedule), effective project staffing strategies and comprehensive adherence to standard work and quality processes. Ensure seamless incorporation of India Global Hub support.
  • As needed, participate in pre-sale technical reviews with Sales & SD as well as regional/local engineering teams. Review for technical and costing accuracy.

Financial

  • Own short-term monthly forecast across assigned projects independent of resource reporting.
  • Manage costs throughout the month at the project level and take action as necessary.
  • Communicate unplanned events to the Project Manager and engineering leadership as appropriate.
  • Take necessary actions to ensure staffing levels and talent support current and forecasted workload.

People Leadership

  • Lead team members by example and by living KION's shared Group Values and Leadership Principles.
  • Engage with peers and people to pulse on sentiment and perceptions. Provide input and recommendations to senior leaders to address opportunities for improvement.
  • Recognize and promote people and team successes.
  • Assess and assign appropriate disciplines and skillsets of resources to successfully deliver engineering content utilizing all available talent pools both internal and external.
  • Identify and implement necessary training to address gaps in resource skills or expertise.
  • Identify high-potential people for technical SME and leadership roles. Identify stretch assignment opportunities with Sr. Manager.
  • Support talent development through active and consistent engagement including 1-1 meetings, real-time learning/coaching opportunities, and training programs.
  • Engage in regular communications with team members via mechanisms such as: 1-1 meetings; project team discussions; peer group meetings; and people feedback, resulting in documentation and tangible examples to support career development, promotion, any necessary Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and the annual OCTR process.

Initiatives

  • Identify opportunities and ideas to improve team KPIs and efficiency. Utilize LEAN tools to improve processes and implement change within the team. Support and participate in business initiatives.
  • Effectively communicate, own the message and implement changes within the team ensuring clear objectives and adherence.

Tasks and Qualifications:

What we are looking for:

  • Engineering Bachelor’s Degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Controls). Advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience leading teams.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively in a team-based organization and with employees of all levels and backgrounds across all functions.
  • Proficient customer-facing skills.
  • Travel as needed to project sites, customer meetings, support pre-sales activities, suppliers.
